a Gibson Les Paul Standard '59 Reissue (with Burstbuckers) if I added Burstbuckers to it and changed nothing else.

Anybody done this?

Any ideas?

I think you might be unhappy. I own a number of historics and one thing you should know is that the aftermarket Burstbuckers are not wax potted or wound the same as the custom shops. I recently got rid of a pair that I put into a 335 because they squeeled. I did put a pair, 2/3 into an SG along with a set of bumble bees. This SG is now a bonafide tone monster. So I would recommend that you look for a pair of Burstbuckers for sale on Ebay that have been taken out of a historic along with a set of bumble bee's, and use that combo. Then you'll be happy. At the very least dump the 490s for a set of 57 classics. :)

ah! thanks!

i was checking out the '59 reissue and wondered what the difference was between that and the VOS. everything seems to be the same, cts pots, bumblebees, etc so is it that the VOS is just aged or perhaps the wood quality?

There is absolutely no difference between the the historic reissue and the historic reissue VOS other than finish. I recently bought another 58 VOS LP that I found in a very limited plain top color. Cherry red, like Dickey Betts. The price was unbeatable at $2400.00 from a dealer brand new. I had thought that I wouldn't like a plain top or a VOS, but this color is something else to see.

I compared the guitar to my 1960 historic and the only difference, other than period correct details, is the aged finish of the VOS. Don't be put of by the VOS. They're pleked, and the finish is not dull but aged looking, and they cost $300 less than a non VOS historic.

I am actually pretty happy with Burstbuckers in my Epi LP. They don't squeal unless I'm right up against the amp.

FWIW, the Burstbucker Pro is wax potted. The others aren't.
