I just did the lead guitar part. The rhythm guitar, bass, and drums are from a backing track.

Check out the tone! I like my tone better than Satriani's on this song. Notice there's a few parts where I switch to the neck pickup to get that extra throaty sound.

Check out the Equipment page for some good pics of the rig.

If you mean the guitar part is too quiet, its because I didn't have the cabinet mic'ed perfectly. I don't know much about proper recording rigs and microphones.

If you mean my guitar's output volume knob, it was rolled back a little bit to take the edge off the saturation. For the creamier parts in the middle of the song the knob was up all the way.

I didn't "forget".

The core tone sounds good but I agree that the guitar needs to be more present. It seems lackluster in the mix. Keep messing with it and I bet you get some better results.

the core tone is good. It's just a poor recording quality holding it back and preventing it from really popping out in the mix.

Good job on the playing. Your recordings will only get better too.

Can you describe in as much detail your entire recording setup. cab/speaker/mic/preamp/interface/etc.

The cabinet is an Earcandy Soverign 1x12 w/ a Green Machine (learned about those from your vids, FastRedPonyCar). Its miced with a Shure SM57 but its positioned haphazardly. Is there anything I should know?

Thats going into my computer's front bay recording ins (came with my Sound Blaster X-Fi card) which has a little mic preamp in it. Recorded it with Cakewalk Sonar and played with eq'ing but still have some tweaking to do. I think its lacking in highs or high mids. If I am informed correctly, I can bring out its presence in the mix with compression too.

Ahhh and now for the motivation .... ... .. .

Sounding very nice! I haven't listened to Satriani at all, but this has a very nice violin tone... could use a tiny bit more thickening up.
