help needed with 2x12 recto cab

Hi Guys,

i've just brought a used 2x12 recto cab with V30s, my question is are these rectos always closed back? The Cab i have is 3 quarter back, it looks like there is piece missing.... i've checked the mesa website and the new 2x12 Cabs all have a one piece back. Do i just have an older model which has a two piece back with the smaller segment missing?

The Cab sounds great though- i'm using it with a 5:25 Express head- but i'm wondering if i'll get a tighter sound with a fully closed back- its pretty bass heavy at the moment?

I know with the 2x12 horizontal they used to ship it with the extra piece so you had a choice of open or closed back . Maybe they can make you one ? Closed back is definately tighter .

Yes I have had recto's with half backs. Here is a picture of one.


My suggestion to you is goto your local hardware store and by some MDF and make a new back if you want full back.
