i'm experimenting. :? need some feedback....

Headin' for the Weeds

and if you think about it
the guy that leads, is headin' for the weeds
and he's got zero vision...
it's just the stuff, they're putting in his feed.

another year has gone by
it just became a faded memory
like the ones before it
til they're home, we simply will not see.

i can't remove myself, from the controversy.

how long does the aggravation
take to fade, and the men go free
from their sworn duty,
put in harm's way, for the east to see?

and if you think about it
the guy that leads, is headin' for the weeds
he's got zero vision...
it's just the stuff, they're putting in the feed.

tell me when it's going to end
tell me.... will you be my friend
tell me when it's going to end.

guitar rig setup:

maudio 192

bass: sansamp, split parallel thru A Designs Audio MP-1, dbx compression

I think that, because of the DI approach, the guitars are bit too upfront, with those "abrasive" mids that are inherent in all the DI boxes.
The vocals could use a little more "polish", maybe some subtle delay, and the different parts of the vocal track could use also some different approaches regarding the effects.
Other than that it sounds great :)

thanks for checking it out dass...

you know, that's what i LIKE about the di....
the upfront-ed-ness of the guitar sound.
it's different.
in this case, i wanted it pretty raw and crunchy, so i think the palmer translated exactly what i wanted.

as far as delay or reverb on the voice, you know, sometimes i do go that way....
but on this one, i want it real dry and personal sounding.
raw on the vox, too, is cool, cuz i wanted it kinda rude, to match the guitar sound.

I would leave the main vocal dry, but I would put some delay on the "airy" parts (bridge, etc). That would give the song a more "produced" sound, and create some variation that would enhance the main vocals' sound.

Anyway, if you actually went for that raw guitar sound, you nailed it :)

Agreed! Love the guitar, right up my alley! I'm not really in a position to professionally critique anything  , but I just wanted to say that the tones were definitely awesome! The guitars seem to have that great GNR vibe to them.

so, some selective effects on vox, i hadn't really considered that..
might be worth the experiment.
i'll try it.

and yes, i was going for a raw sound, it seems that most of my previous work always had a smoothed out guitar sound, so i'm hitting new ground with this kind of sound.

i'll probably eventually end up with a combination of raw and smooth sounds blended.
that's probably the ideal.

11th hour-
hey, any critique is welcome, you know, everybody 'knows' what they hear and like, they just don't always know exactly why, but it's good to hear all opinions about that kind of thing....thanks.
