Getting Mark IV sounds from a Road King II

I just posted this in the "What's Happening to my Road King" thread: I heard on one of these topics that the only difference between newer Rectos and the 2 Ch. Duals and Triples of yesteryear is the primary power tubes that come with it. I heard nowadays they're Russian, whereas earlier on, they were Chinese. Does anyone know if this is valid? This should get you a little closer to a Mark tone but not quite. You'd most likely need an EQ, and some sort of OD as I've heard. Having never played a Mark IV I'm just basing my guess on what people have told me of it. But back to my point: is that the truth? About the tubes? If so, I could make my RK into an early days recto and morph up my sound into something even cooler?!!?
