I´m looking for a fender (telecaster, jaguar or mustang) on ebay right now. I dont know much about fenders. I have been using Gibsons for many years now in my band, but I want to buy one fender to use in some of our songs.

I did notice that the ones from Mexico are cheaper, so I guess that they are not as good? Is there huge difference between those two?

The newer mexican strat is getting better. When the mexican strat first came out it was terrible. I ended up going through a few before I just gave up and played MIA back in the early 90's. I was trying not to have to buy an american standard. Currently, the build quality is way better than it was. They actually play decent too now. But like any guitar go through a couple to find the one that is you because they aren't all the same. With the mexican you get older spec parts. The american standard will give you newer spec parts. Basically, the mexican is what used to be the american standard but is now made in Mexico. Go check them out and determine the differences yourself.

In the early 90's I went to a local dealer with every intention of buying an American Strat and ended up walking out with a Mexican one with about $600 left over. After swapping out the pickups, pots, and tuners, I had a great guitar with a trem that wouldn't go out of tune that served me well for about seven years.

If they're better than that these days, then they must be pretty **** good.

I've got a MIM Fat Strat with a Floyd Rose, made sometime in this decade.
I swapped out th pups, mainly because I found a deal on a set of EMG's (HSS) for $50.00.

The quality is great. The only "issue" I have, is theat under the pickguard is an olympic swimming pool sized cavity. Great for pickup options, but I'm not sure what it does to the tone.
I've never played an American strat to tell the difference. They seem to hold their value well.

i think a lot of us have experience with MIM vs USA strats, but maybe not as many have compared the tele/jaguar/mustang guitars you're looking at. you might also want to consider made in Japan if you're price conscious. fender has made some excellent guitars in japan for cheaper than USA prices.
