I'm piggybacking off another thread.

I have heard some mixed reviews around here about speakers choices for the Mark V.

Post what you DO like and what you DONT like for the Mark V.

I haven't tried other speakers, but my EVM 12L speakers sound great with the MKV.

I haven't tried a lot of different options, but I have a 2x12 Rectifier cabinent that I bought used and it sounds great to me when paired with the MV.

I had a C90 loaded 3/4 back 1x12 and V30 loaded Recto horizontal 2x12 in the house at one time a few weeks ago. I chose the 3/4 back and then swapped the C90 for an EV. Perfect!! Love it.

How is the C90 in the 3/4 back? Why didn't you keep it in there?

I find that Vintage 30's are an obvious choice for the Mark V, and possibly a 4x12 with 2 V30's and 2 G12h-30's to give it a thicker bottom end. The C90 is a solid, high power speaker, but Imuch prefered something with a bit more grind. The C90 is a bit too clear for the amp on the 3rd channel, and I think the bass response suffers from being a bit honky or tubby with the C90's.

The C90 is similar to the EV, but the EV is more hi-fi sounding and transparent. It is sweeter in the mids and highs too I think. The bottom is nice and tight. It just seems like a very faithful speaker for the Mark series.

I'm running an Eminence Wizard paired with a V30. Nice cut/high end, (without being overbearing), strong mids, and tight, focused bottom end. (like just about half of Kim Kardashian's booty)

Crunchy, yet warm would be the best way I could describe it.

Another good combo also, is the Emi Swamp Thang & V30, if you prefer an even fatter tone. It'll have less upper midrange, but a bigger, and thicker low end...(all of Kim Kardashian's booty!)

I have a Recto 2x12/V30s, a 3/4 back 2x12/C90s, and an Express 23 1x12/C90. I prefer the 3/4 back with the C90s.

My MkV is a 1x12 combo loaded with a Mesa C90. I had planned on trying an EVM-12L in the combo but the C90 sounds so good that I've decided to leave it stock. The C90 is a great sounding speakr!

I am running a C90 combo with EVM front ported cab. That sounds better (to me) than the C90 that was in the cabinet when I got it. I did also try C90 and V30 combo but still the winner is C90 / EVM12L.

im runnin two 4x12s with emeince texas heats and swamp thangs in a "x" pattern with my oh so loveable foam mod and i never want any other speakers ever. I love having 1200 watt capacity (600 per cab, both speakers are rated at 150 watts lol) with only a 90 watt head.

What does the, "foam mod" achieve for you, a tighter bass response? Does it cut down on any unwanted boomy bass by chance? I'm having a slight prob with that...my cab is convertible from open to closed back, so I could easily try it...thanks!

man my cabs were peavey 6505s and they had sheffeilds in them which arnt the greatest sounding speaker. But i did the foam before i got the emeiences and it made my cab sound like a marshall 1960 cab but a bit darker due to the speakers. Now that i got the swamp thangs and texas heats with that foam mod my attack for my channel 3 is so fucking defined i love it. Tightens everything up, makes the cab pretty much a perfect seal so all the sound is forced through the front makeing it seem like its even more punchier i unno i just wont ever own another cab with out the mod done to it.
