Anybody know the output of an EMG81 in mv(or volts) or have the old data sheets that were available on the EMG site awhile back that listed that info.

I've searched and found values ranging from 1.25 volts to 2 volts.

And I know tone is the sum of all the parts of the p/up not just output etc... I just like to know that stuff.

Thanks.

13 replies aye??? Looks like a bit of the ole interest.

This is what I've found so far:

# EMG-81
# Resonant Frequency (kHz): 2.00
# Magnet Type: Ceramic/steel
# Output Voltage (String): 2.0
# Output Voltage (Strum): 4.5
# Output Noise @ 60Hz: -91 dBV
# Output Impedance: 10 kOhms
# System
# Current @ 9V: 160 microamps
# Battery Life: 1,500 hours
# Maximum Supply: 27V D

Lots of output. Doesnt dimarzio show passive outputs in the 300-400 mv output range?

Either way been experimenting with cranking the gain WAY back...

The big question that you need to worry about is, What is their testing rig? Unless Dimarzio and EMG us the exact same rig, their numbers are irrelevant when comparing to other brands

Bingo. None of those numbers matter until there is a standardized test.

And besides, the 81 is supposed to be "high output", but I never found them SUPER hot or anything. I guess high output by 1987 standards, sure. But my AHB-1 Blackouts eat EMG's all day long!
