Naw, I think masking is a real concern if the tones are too identical. My guitar tech was really big on Single Coil next to a Humbucker. He said it blended better and you could always tell who was playing what.
Using different cab models / speakers should carve out a very different sonic space in and of itself.

great price, throw some new tubes in and see what you have. You will love the amp they just rock!!!

For sure man, I can't wait to try it. Since I picked it up I've been busy but I'll be on it this weekend for sure. Any recommendations on tubes brand wise for the boogies? I'm thinking Ruby's or JJ's just for the price. I'm not the biggest tone junkie out there but just good solid reliable tubes.

I'm a big fan of winged C's. I have a quad of winged C el34s for backup and a quad of winged C 6l6s in my roadster. I also have a quad of JJ 6l6s put away and those are really good tubes for the price. So if you don't go mesa 6l6s, I'd stick some JJs in the power section. JJ EL34Ls are also pretty good in the power section. The L version to retain the low end but still have that mid range crunch of the el34s.

Alright guys and......gals (maybe?) I finally got some time to sit down with the dual rec and here's the run down. I took 4 working 6l6 tubes from my RM100 and put them in the dual rec (same spots even) and fired it up using the same 4x12 cab that I was just using on my RM. It does work which i'm stoked about BUT....the output volume is quite low. Not practice amp low but nothing compared to the RM100. With all knobs pegged I was kneeling in front of the cab and my ears aren't ringing like you'd expect. All the power tubes and recto tubes were glowing and running HOT actually they seemed quite a bit hotter than my randall. So to get to the point i'm just wondering what the troubleshooting order of operations are that I should go through. I haven't touched any of the preamp tubes even though all of them were warm so they weren't completely dead I suppose.

Thanks for all the help,
Ryan

Make sure the effects send and return knobs on the back are turned up at a reasonable level - maybe 12 o'clock or so as the manual says - even with no effects plugged in. It is common for these knobs to get bumped and inadvertantly readjusted. They are in the signal chain unless the channel selection switch is in the effects bypass mode. - Pat.

Mr. Fayse you are the king. Thanks for that novice fix that was exactly the problem! This thing is extremely loud! It would have taken me a long time to figure that one because I don't do much with effects so I probably wouldn't have touched those knobs. This just shows that i'm Dual Rectarded! Thanks again!

Good to hear it, but, I do feel your your neighbors with your newly found headroom.

About your warm tubes: Just because they seem/feel hot doesn't always mean they are running above specified limits. Remember this: Mesa's are fixed bias amps so you can't adjust the idle current in the output tubes. This is why Mesa wants you to come to them to buy their hand-picked tubes that they know will work with their products. There are suppliers of other brands of tubes that have figured out Mesa's tube window and can sell tubes that will also work. Output tubes come in a wide variety of gain characteristics. To be sure I would get a tech with a bias probe to see if the tubes out of the Randall are running within spec in your amp. ALWAYS - with 6L6's - make sure the bias switch never gets switched to EL34 mode as this WILL cause the 6L6's to run very hot. This may let the magic smoke out of your amp redering it inoperatable. If you run EL34's in the amp and the switch gets in the 6L6 mode there is no problem, but, the amp will run really cold. - Pat.

All very valuable info for sure, on the upside and the main reason I used the randall tubes was because they actually are a matched quad of mesa boogie 6l6s. I do understand the fixed bias but I will say that Randall (egnater's) user adjustable bias is quite handy. Thanks again for the tips and keep the mesas loud!....with the fx loop volume set right
