dual rec old tubes

I have an older mesa boogie dual rectifier 2 channel and the tubes in it are the 6l6 str420 tubes. In order for the amp to self bias do I have to replace it with these same tubes? because they seem to be discontinued. I believe these tubes have to be replaced because I am getting a sound through the clean channel that sounds like an ocean.

they do not need to be the same tubes.

mesa tubes are coded by colors. They range from hot to cold. Any Mesa tubes can go in any mesa amplifier. For example, the 440 is what they use now. But I personally think the 420's sound better. You can find them on ebay.

Outside of Mesa, Groove Tubes within their 4-7 range also fit well with a Mesa.

After these two companies, you need to know a little bit more about tubes before you begin to experiment and possibly waste money.
