Delay suggestions.....

I am using the DD-3 with my Mark V and its fine besides the fact of the clipping. So I really am not a huge delay ***** so the eventide and nova are out of the question due to price. I was looking at the carbon copy but the more reviews i read the more i found issues with reliability and the tone was hit and miss. I would like to not spend over 150 on a delay pedal, but reliability and no tone sucking is a must.
I would use it mainly for slight delay in solos and during clean chording. the only other pedal in the loop is a Boss super chorus.

Please help me out guys.

If you're going to be cheap, i'd say do without. No sense hooking up junk to a Mark V, the effect wont be worth the sacrifice in tone.

If you want analog check out the deluxe memory man (250$ on amazon). I've got a g-force rack for digital stuff and it of couse sounds pretty good.

+1! Or, better yet, find one used for ~$160. I found mine for $175 shipped and it was still in the factory sealed plastic when I opened it up. The Nova Repeater can be purchased new for ~$199 if you don't need/want programmable presets.

Kinda of in the same boat. Been using my DD-2 for many, many years now. I am currently looking at the Malekko 616. http://www.malekkoheavyindustry.com/index.php/ekko

Basically the same price as the carbon copy but has the added addition of the modulation controls being external vs internal as on the carbon copy. Also has selectable TB or buffered. The builder also has a good rep. These points alone are leading me to think that this is the one for me.

Also in stock direct from the builder.

Oh and I also forgot, there is an internal level control so you can adjust the pedal to your rig. Boost in volume when you engage the pedal? Adjust the pot! Volume drop? Adjust the pot! Also a huge plus over the carbon copy IMHO.

I use delay similar to you (i think) and I have a dd-3 and just bought nova dealy. Awsome pedal no doubt, but it's too much for me. I hate how the dd-3 kills the high end in the loop but nova is a whole lot of cash. I would definetly buy the repeater over the carbon copy any day especially since the price is similar. I've heard the cc is a tone suck and that it isn't consistent between clean and dirty channels - never played one though.

............if you are a analog delay fan that is. I don't mind it for clean stuff, but I usually prefer the pristine, crisp, perfect repeats only a digital delay can achieve. The ND has a neat feature that lets you blend between tape, analog, and digital which is very cool...

The Repeater's max delay time is 1200ms vs the ND's 2290ms. There's no 'color' knob on the RPT, but you can choose the type and use the 'tone' knob instead (among other knob differences). There's no LCD display on the RPT either. IMO, it's worth the extra cash to be able to actually use all the cool features of the delay pedal at will (via presets). The presets keep me from tweaking it too much!

There's other differences, but that's just what I noticed from looking at this pic:

not sure if you are buying new, but if you buy used you can get a ND-1 for less than a new RPT-1... Just something to think about. The RPT-1 is sure to do the trick too though!

I recently purchased the Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy analog delay pedal for $80. Man, am I ever impressed with the quality of delay sound through my MKV combo. I play a American Fender Deluxe Strat (HSS) and am plugging directly into the pedal and plug the pedal output directly into the guitar input of my MKV.

I also own a Boss DD3, and wasn't at all happy with the sound through the MKV or Express 5:50 that I own no matter how I set it or how I routed it thru my Mesa amps.

The memory toy is as simple as it gets for a delay pedal, but is capable of a very wide range of excellent delay sounds and applications for most musical styles. It is a true bypass pedal, and actually works properly by not noticeably sucking tone out of my amp when active or in true bypass. It is also very quite while in use thru my gear.

It also offers a modulation toggle switch on or off. I found the factory setting of the modulation effect to be too extreme for my taste, but was able to tweak the internal Mod Depth pot to make the Mod option sound very sweet. I recently posted a review on HC for this pedal, but it hasn't been posted yet. Currently, there are 3 reviews on HC for this pedal. Mine should be the 4th and I discuss it using my MKV.

Quite honestly, the delay sounds of this pedal are fantastic and are exactly what I was looking for to enhance my sound.

Attached is an excellent demo of the Memory Toy. He is using a PRS into the Memory Toy and the MT directly into a tube amp.

I find the same quality of delay sounds using this pedal with my guitar and amp. Enjoy!

considering DD-3s are a dime a dozen, and the DM-2 is a classic analog pedal that fetches a lot of money on the open market, I still say make that trade. (or have him PM me!)

Wonder why Boss delays get the knock in general, sooooo many people use them, pros, iterm, newbs... For the money, they are a great value.

Yeah like i said before, I loved my DD3 except for the fact that it clips in this effects loop. I haven't made the trade yet, but I tried out the DM2 last night and its totally different from a digital delay. Its a good different though, not a chimey delay at all. I am going to use it for a couple of weeks and see what I think before I maybe make the trade. Its pretty beat to crap and back but it works, its seems to be hindered just by being cosmetically ugly as sin.

Just checking before you get rid of the pedal when you may not have to, where is your Loop Send at? If it's not straight up at midnight, try that to see if the clipping goes away.
