Does they Mayan calendar actually say, "The world ends here on this date,"? I'm thinking more likely the calendar simply ended on that date and those who wanted to pretend like they knew something important filled in all the end of the world stuff. Probably what happened back when the Mayan priests were doing all the calculations to make the calendar, is they got to December 21, 2012, and went, "Seriously, this thing's 500 years long now, do we really need to make it longer? No? I didn't think so. Fsck this noise. C'mon, let's go grab a beer and sacrifice a virgin."
actually i believe there are many mentions of an "event" happening around that date in 2012. but yeah, i doubt it literally says the world ends, those ancient bastards never like to make things easy for us.
It doesnt say anything about an ending, it just ends. i took a class on Mayan studies in college, and the professors interpretation was more like it measured a cycle. What cycle it could possibly measure is the question and the mystery that spurs all these theories. What i do think, is that if it is a measure of a cycle, it must be modelled after something an ancient civilization observed and i can tell you that calendar is extremely accurate. With that said it should be interesting to uncover what that "something" is.
I'm always a skeptic and come from a science background so proof and understanding is usually a must, but some part of me believe something about this holds water. Not the whole dooms day mumbo jumbo, but if you look at a lot of the celestial events occuring right now (earth AND mars simultanious heating rapidly), orbital changes, the suns rapidly increasing sun spots and flares... the one that strikes me the most and was not covered in any of these articles/clips is the whole viking mission (i think it was viking). Anyway we sent two spacecrafts in opposite directions, parrellel to the solar plane to gather data from above/below the solar system.
Long story short both crafts should be the same distance from the earth in opposite directions as there is no friction in space... well not so much. The one that was travelling south of the solar plane is still much closer to the plane than the one travelling north and the difference isnt even close. This has baffled scientists or a while and they have no idea why... its almost as though a large body or large mass existists below the plane.
Right now the leading contender for that large body/mass/energy is dark matter/dark energy, which are both just theorized ideas that are basically there to make this anomaly make sense. Basically whatever is causing it is slowing down that craft which accounts for the difference between its distance and the north bound one. To me a brown dwarf (which are extremely hard to detect) makes more sense than some dark matter/energy that scientists created to make things fit.
Since in a binary star systems (especially one with a brown dwarf) "dance" it's not out of th question that IF there were one dancing with our star, it could cross into our solar system at which point would introduce a gravity that would throw our planet and sun into a chaotic state (just like the moon controls the tides). The sun would most definitely heat up, which could cause global warming throughout the solar system causing super-hurricanes and super-tornadoes, would be a catalyst for massive tectonic plate shifting which would cause mega-tsunamis, and basically would throw the world into havoc. Not the end of the world but a hell of a time for those living close to plate boundaries, deserts and coastlines. This also wouldnt be the first time a sudden global upheaval has happened, the proof is in the rocks.
So as you can see when you actually think about it, its not so crazy. A long shot? Probably but not out of the question and if it were true would be a hell of a lot more logical than some other scientific theories out there. All we need now is some sort of proof this brown dwarf exists.... and to be honest with you, the only ones that could know at this point are NASA because only the hold the leys to the satellites that could detect this. And IF they did find this brown dwarf, bet your Boogies on it that we'll never know until its visible with amateur telescopes or the naked eye. Hopefully IF they do know something they have some sort of plan in the works to save a few Mark IVs, a Mark IIC+, a pre-500 recto and one of each of the current lines
At the very least I think this topic is pretty interesting one way or the other. And to read the comments on some of these sites are pure entertainment.
