I finally received my Ernie Ball Music Man 20th Anniversary Silhouette and it's the bee's knees:

To celebrate, I wrote and recorded a clip yesterday:

Here's the rig:

Nice!

Thanks for posting this I just got a HotPlate last week and I was wondering if it would sound good using the load/line out into my Toneport.

Survey says YES!

I used the Mesa Treadplate 4x12 with V30 cab sim and an on-axis SM-57 with 50% room. You should get similar results with your setup.

BTW, Thanks. :)

Cool!

I'm psyched to try this out. All of your clips sound great btw - one of the main reasons I went with an F-50. I'm getting a replacement set of power tubes this week (looks like one of them is on its way out) so hopefully I'll get to set it up this weekend. I'm pretty happy with the Toneport already, I mean considering it's all software driven, but I was hoping a setup like this could get it to sound even better.

:D

That thing sounds killer man, SO that's how the toneport sounds? I may have to look into one of those things, amazing man.

As far as practicing w/ headphones and silent/direct recording are concerned I've been nothing but thrilled with my Toneport. Nothing beats playing through a real amplifier turned up but for what it is... the Toneport is pretty awesome.

Hal - I posted a clip of my Tiny Tone (a 1.5 watt amp I built from a kit) running direct into a Toneport using the Hot Plate in the Amps forum under 'Pics from my DIY tube amp project'.

Didn't want to post it here cuz it's not a boogie.... anyway I had pretty good success with it!

:D

I'll post some clips of my F-50 as soon as I get my new power tubes.

That’s awfully nice of you to say. Yeah, I like the Toneport UX-2 a lot.

Thanks! :) The Toneport sounds great as both a regular dual mic preamp and as a cab/mic sim FX box like I’m using it here. The direct-in guitar sounds are exactly the same as the PODxt if you have any experience that way. I actually prefer my Vox Tonelab for direct sounds, because it sounds and feels more like an amp, but the Toneport is still very good.

what are the pickups? bolt on or set neck? thin or wide neck? maple? sorry for all the questions.
Here are the main spec’s: http://www.ernieball.com/site/flyers/20th_ann.html

Mine has the upgraded premium quilted maple top, artist-grade birdseye maple fretboard, vintage tremolo, matching headstock, and the piezo option. The pickups are custom-made by DiMarzio specifically for this guitar and I don’t have any reference as to what they may be similar to except for a few allusions to the DiMarzio Virtual PAF neck and Virtual Hot PAF bridge. The pickups are certainly not as hot as say the SD Custom in my Ravelle and Fat Strat. As with all EBMM guitars, the neck is attached with 5-bolts and the heel is sculpted for superior upper fret access. The neck is very Strat-like with its 10” radius and overall feel and IIRC is the same as the EBMM Axis. What’s really different about the construction of this guitar is that the main body wood is Alder like a Strat, but it has a Mahogany tone block that runs from the neck socket to behind the tremolo. The tone block adds a righteous amount of mids to the mix giving the guitar more powerful voice.

You can see the neck joint here:

That right there, is THE nicest guitar musicman has. I've played one and wanted one, except it's so **** expensive!
Ha ha, it's too expensive, says the guy with a Mark IIC+. Seriously, thank you and I agree, although your Axis Super Sport is a special axe. The thing about EBMM is that I like most of their guitars, so I want one of each. :)

dude, that sounded awesome! i found this post from someone who suggested a hotplate... and i actually have the toneport UX2 !!! (can't wait to get the hotplate now!!!)

i looked at the gearbox for the cab but found only the 4x12 2001 treadplate but no v30 cab sim. is that the same one you're using. the only v30 i found was the 4x12 1996 brit celest v-30's.

in your audio clip, what line6 effects are you using?

man, thanks for the inspiration; your clip sounds awesome. as soon as my hotplate comes in i'll record some stuff with my dual rectifier!!!

I've got the same setup (almost)- F-50 > HotPlate > Toneport and it works great. I'm guessing a good mic with a real cabinet in a good sounding room would be the ideal setup but this is an excellent alternative AND you can record at 1 in the morning in your apartment and not piss anybody off.

last week at the studio we recorded our singer's vocals with just the toneport. you can hear her clips at my band's page www.myspace.com/charettamusic

the other tracks were recorded at a studio a couple of years ago with my old band. the tracks were never finished so i took it and just put vocals on top of it. it's just scratch vocals to have on our site, but i'm loving the toneport.

once i get the hotplate i will probably mic my cab AND run a line out to two separate tracks and see how that sounds.
