Looking to buy a recto 2x12, but I'm wondering what, if any, difference in sound there would be between the horizontal or the vertical? If anyone can give me info on this it would be much appreciated, thanks.

what are the difference in sizes between the two? The actual cabinet dimensions plays a huge role in the overall sound. What tonal characteristics are you looking for the cab to have? Speakers and cabs have such a huge impact on your tone, it's a shame people don't pay them more respect often times!

The vertical is larger and since its a slant it will "spread" the sound a little more. The horizontal will sound more focused and beamy but if its flat on the floor it will have a big bass feel to it.

+100! You have all these people on this forum giving advice to turn up the mids or presence or lower the gain blah, blah, blah. But they never ask what speakers are being used. If I post a question on how to sound like petrucci and someone gives me his settings, its going to sound like night and day depending on if I use V30's or g12t-75's. I run a 112 avatar with a g12t-75 for practice and drag out the 412 recto only when necessary, and it doesnt even sound like the same amp let alone the same setting. Yellow Jacket, help me out here!

I'd go with the vertical recto 2x12, if you are definitely set on the recto series.

I've got a vertical marshall 2x12 and it sounds tighter, and is less beamy & bassy than my recto 2x12" horizontal.

I also used to an ENGL Pro vert 2x12, and that was a good cab, projected better than the horizontal recto, but I still prefer the marshall.

thr BIGGER the BETTER!!!!!!!
Not necessarily... Too much cab can equal too much bass, especially when using a recto head.

Yeah of course...but thats what a rectifier is for...big bassy chunky drive..
now a jcm800 on the other hand..does that even have a knob for bass on it???
or just presence and treble???

jokin of course.............

I,ve went cab crazy!!!My fave cabs are 2x12s my fave of the cabs i,ve got is my recto horizontal 2x12 but certain venues it,s to bassy on the ground so i put casters on it or raise it up on something,my half back 2x12 horizontal cab is a good all round cab but doesn't always sound at it's best low down.It spreads the sound well but is brighter and more detailed sounding with less bottom end than the recto. My vertical pro Engl cab is a great cab and they don't get the praise they should, but there heavy as f**k so i,ve got casters on mine, great bottom end and projection but less detail than the mesa horizontal cab.
