cab on side?!

Ive got a 2009 rectifier and im playing it through a orange 2x12. When i have it sitting on the floor its hard for me to hear my real tone..well i turned the 2x12 on its side so its taller. I really like the way it sounds. This is prolly a stupid question but is this harmful to the cab? also, how can i get a fatter osund out of a 2x12? didnt have money for a 4x12
