Hi,

I'm looking for a cab to make my DC-3 combo a bit more punchy/tight for metal stuff. I hear that closed back cabinets can do wonders at that, so I was wondering about getting a 2x12" cabinet.

The one I have been looking at is the Framus FR212 CB with 2 Vintage 30 elements in it. You can see it here:

It looks sweet and has a very nice price tag, but will it make my DC-3 a better amp for metal? I already have tons of gain (JJ higain kit from Bob), but I feel there is something lacking in the palm mute/bottom end section.

If not this cab, do you have any other suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks for the input.[/img]

I just have a general comment. I also have the DC-3, and although I'm not a metal player, I understand what it is you're after. I have run mine through a variety of different speaker combinations.

Running with the internal speaker plus one external open back 12 incher just makes the amp seem bigger. It seems to make it sound louder, and gives a bit more mid range. It doesn't give you huge bass response.

Disconnecting the internal speaker and running through a 2x12 open back gives the amp a fabulous vintage tone and feel. The bottom end opens up considerably, but so does the amp's inherent spankiness.

Same approach with a 2x12 closed back makes the amp scream. Very fat sounding with tons of bottom end.

Running the amp through a Marshall 4x12 cab with V30s does wonders too.

I would think the cab you're looking at will do what you want, although my experience with 2x12 cabs has led me to believe that if you set the rig up with the 2x12 hrizontal, it's almost too much bass. Running vertically is my preferred approach. Good luck, and please let us know what you decide, and how it works.

Thanks for your comments, plumptone. I really think I will go for this one. From what you say I also have to try it with the back removed, I think. And there should be no problem standing it up vertical.
