I am planning on trying some EL 34 tubes in my triple rectifier. does the bias switch in the back do a sufficent job at biasing the amp to handle the EL 34 or do you suggest bringing it to specialist.
 
Hey man!

As long as the switch is set accordingly (6L6 or EL-34) you should be good to go. I am constantly going back and forth between the two in my Rectifier with no issues.
 
It should be ok.....I tried it once, and after 5 minutes one of the 34s blew and I switched back.Never tried it again...turned out to be a faulty tube.

New production EL34s are pretty unreliable -- you should see what guys with old Marshalls go through. Not that old-stock EL34s are all that reliable either, but they were always intended to be an inexpensive tube.
