Ok....so I purchased a bias mod from Mansfield Guitars. I called this morning and spoke to John. He seemed very knowedgable and was more than willing to help me. He faxed me over a copy if the installation instructions so I could determine if I could handle this myself or not. He also assured me that he would be there along the way should I have any problems with the installation or biasing. So far they seem like a good company that cares. I should have it in a few days and I'll let you all know how it turns out.

John is a great guy, I gave him a call a couple weeks ago regarding Roadster chassis dimensions and other Roadster related questions and he was more than eager to help. We spoke in length about his bias circuit and if I wasn't afraid of electrocuting myself, I'd definitely try this out. Boogieman, keep us updated, I'd love to know how this turns out.

Just wanted to update this post as I received and installed my bias mod from Mansfield Guitars. First off I dealt with John who is the owner and he was always helpful. Upon request he was able to provide me with a schematic with the load resistor circled. The instructions that come with the unit are general instructions since they can be used on many different amps however they were easy to follow and very detailed. I was able to install this mod with no issues whatsoever. You do need to be able to solder and locate the load resistor as the location changes with different amps. If you don't have this ability then you should not do this yourself. I know Mansfield Guitars also installs these for people that cannot do it themselves.

Once I installed it I played around a little with the bias. I went from stock 28ma to 35ma and finally settled on 45ma. The difference is amazing that such a little thing can make the amp sound way better. It increases the volume as well. This amp is an absolute monster now. I play primarily at low volumes which is why I biased a little hotter. I love the fact that my amp is also protected in case of pot failure. This unit is small and will fit practically anywhere in the amp and is neat and professional looking. They used a high quality Bournes 20 turn cermet pot and the circuit board seems of high quality too. I will definatly recommend this to others and I will be ordering another for my lonestar as well.

I also wanted to say THANKS to Mansfield Guitars for all the help. Keep up the great work!!

I was just happy with the product and service and wanted people to know. They went out of their way to help me

whats cool about john at mansfield is that he'll answer questions and tell you information. Other techs want to keep you in the dark, so they can make money off you. The less you know the better for them. If I need something, you bet I'm gonna buy it from john, he shares stuff with the community which makes this a better place for us all.

I know this is an older post but I wanted to ask how adding the bias mod changed the Dual Rec, as I'm interested in doing this upgrade.

What I'm wanting to change, if this mod can do it:

I find that at band volume, with the gain and after the amp has been on for 30mins or so, everything smooths out with the tone but it is not the best amp for mid gain tones. I own 2 Mark series amps and they just work better for backing off the guitar volume to give you 'clean to mean' from the guitar without changing channels. I'd like to get my Dual Rec to do this too. That and for me the Raw modes are useless as they sound sterile and lifeless. It appears that the bias on the Recs is really cold, to give you that chainsaw type grind, but I don't use that sound much and would like a little more versatility.

Does that make sense? Will adding this bias mod get me there?

thanks,
Steve
