How would you guys recommend setting up a signal chain to get some nice clean sustain tone?

I'm thinking like the tone some of the jazzy fusiony type players get, not dirty, not buzzy, but very phat and smooth and hard hitting enough to be called fusion.......maybe like a Lee Ritenour meets Jeff Beck sound....??

I assume a compressor is involved? That's what I'm starting with. Maybe a clean boost? Maybe some EQ? I've had no luck with OD pedals, but there is no guarantee that I've been using them correctly either.....

My amp is a 5.25 Express, and I have alnico 12's and 10's both, and a Strat....

try a Barber Tone Press. Lot's of sustain without coloring your sound.

In addition to compressors or boosts, I would also give it a little gain from the amp - not too much to sound like distortion, but just enough to bring you to the verge of clipping. That's kind of what a clean boost does.

I dont think my Strat is the most resonant guitar ever made. It's setup really nice right now, and I will keep it, but it does not do sustain well unless the amp feeds back.

I like the CS-3 idea. Especially if it's q-u-i-e-t!

I'll have to research the other tips! Thanks!
