I guess I really just need to get a 1x12 cab or something for at home. I leave the IV at the practice space which is like 30 mins away. I have my 5150 head here at home, but no speaker to run it into.....I have a Boogie 1x12 box that is empty...which I reallllllly need to throw a speaker in. Then I'll be playing the IV every day, tweaking like crazy, compared to once a week, with earplugs in.

I agree that the Mark V seems to be more versatile and has better (IMO) voicing in channels 1 and 2, but in channel 3, I am having a hard time getting a sound that I would use (I need more time with it-I'm sure it's there). Extreme definately sounds promising, but I was shocked that I wasn't really into the IIC+ and IV voices.

FWIW, Playing the Mark V first, and then playing my Triple Rec, My Triple seems more "Hi-Fi" (think Diezel), where the Mark seems more urgent.

Again, IMO, for Thrash Metal, you need a Mark. Now I need to find one...

A few pedals used with the IV quickly put it on par with the V
for channels 1 and 2. One thing you wont be able to fix on the V though
is that boxy sounding chan 3.

Wait for the revision...I have faith that RS knows its not right
and will fix it along with the other problems. No matter how
good he is at design he's not going to nail something as
complex as the V on the first try.

whoever said throw a 10 band EQ in the loop , nailed it.
I am going thru this right now with my Red stripe III to a IV( A) that i can score from my buddy for a real good price.
I have an MXR 10 band EQ in the loop of my III and I can get it to sound almost Identical to the IV lead channel.
I'm also running a modded SD-1 as a clean boost in front of both of them (I keep the gain down at around 6 on the amps) and "loose" or "fizzy" will never enter a description of these two amps when I have them run like that , they are very tight and crisp and sharp.
IMO Diming the gain on any amp will mush it out and add fizz.

I've yet to try a V in person, so Unfortunately I can't contribute an opinion there :(

fairly consistently they have said that Channels 1 and 2 demolish R1 and R2 on the Mark IV, but that channel 3 is not as thick as the lead channel on the Mark IV.

This sounds a lot to me like they have put a Triaxis in an amp.
I have recently purchased a Triaxis and placed it in my MkIV FX loop, I have had the same exact feeling: Rhys and Lead1s sound much better than MkIVs Rhy1 and 2, but MkIV's Lead channel is by far thicker and more dynamic than anything on the TA.

because the mark IV setting on the triaxis is the IV with the presence pulled. try it.
