does any one here uses pedals before the preamp section? I am wondering especially about delays> Its just that i am tired of tweaking with the SEND and WET knobs on the back of my triple rect. I am tired of the volume drop that is associated with the Loop being activated. YEs.. i have read the manual. i am aware of the recommedations MESA have given in regards to the EFFECT LOOP. But in reality , once that loop has been activated the signal is never the same going thru the effecst loop. especially on stage. WHen i had my dual rectifer i tried a lot of effects processors through the LOOP. Lexicons, Digitechs, Line 6, prophesy, money down the drain. none of them sounded great. EXcept for a BOSS Harmonizer pedal! which sounded great. I then paid someone to mod my dual rect to a SERIES loop. I will never do this again. Now that i own a Triple Rec. I wanted my rig to easier to maintain and less cords to worry about. I have a audio switcher for channel switching and for the TUBESCREAMER. i went out an purchased a G-major. same SO-SO results. and volume drops when loop activated. JUst got burned out with dealing with this Parallel Effect loop system... I mainly just want a great delay sound for solo work. maybe some chorus...
So does anyone uses Delays before preamp section? i play METAL/Hardcore stuff.

i use a boss dd20 with my triple rec. i agree with you about the volume drop i cant stand it. its not only that it loses volume it also loses balls. i run my dd20 infront of the amp and it sounds fine. sounds better in the loop tho but kinda distant. i was going to buy a g major this week i hope it sounds good with the tr. i know they sound awsome with the dsl.

I've never had any trouble with my Mesa looks....Dual Rectifier or Mark IV.

The Mark IV has a much better loop, but I never had any trouble with levels on my Dual Recto with a DD-3.

I had my main distortion tone master on 11 o'clock....send at 11, and return at 1 I believe....that's a very vague memory though :?

Just tweak....it's definitely possible.

Hey ...

Delay before overdrive has a very specific sound ... play a note and the follower kind of crashes into it ... I love it, it sounds really intense, so much so that I will never run a rig, large or small, without at least the option of a delay pre-od... It sounds crap for rhythm cos its to messy but so does delay after od on rhythm, unless you turn it down to a point where, live especially, its pointless cos you can't hear it anyway ...

so if only one delay pedal was at my disposal, I would put it pre-od saving one memory on low level for distortion channel giving a searing lead/solo sound ... turn it off for heavy rhythms and other phrases where any delay is useless, and save a nice memory for cleans which don't matter where it is in the chain so much ...

that make any sense?

However, if you need delay for specific phrases where you use od/lead sounds but need the clear repeat, it has to go post pre in your loop ...

I understand your issue with the loop changes ... Can you not just keep th loop engaged and change sounds on the units themselves?

"I understand your issue with the loop changes ... Can you not just keep th loop engaged and change sounds on the units themselves?"

i just keep the loop turned on at all times on all of my sound settings.
It is has become the easier thing to do than fight with volume drops.

I just liked the way the my ch 2 modern sounds with the loop not engaged. it is thick with gain! palm muting is thicker and killer.

SO now i have the Gmajor in my effects loop. THe loop is on at all times.
For my rhythm Chan 2 modern, I just have the GMajor's Noise gate and COmpressor on. this sounds pretty good. I notice that my sound if more focused with lower mids/upper mids. Also i notice that it is prone to feedbacking alot.. so i use some Gating. other wise it has wicked crunch and sustain.
For my solo chan 3 modern i have delay, and some chorus. (i found out that with the compressor ON, it helped feed more) this gives it a more cleaner solo sound.

I still use a Patchmate to do all of my Pedal, amp switching. I also found out the external 1/4 jacks on the back of my Triple bypass the Loop ON/OFF knob.

my loop settings are
SEND 85- 95%
WET is 100%
Gmajor
INPUT 65-75% depends on noisegate settings/ to low it clips too soon.
OUTPUT 65-75%
