I tried an MXR 10-band in the loop of my F-30, and it was HORRIBLE! Buzzing, clipping AWFUL! In front it's "ok", but I can't seem to fine-tune the bottom end, and the mids as much as I'd like. The stock tubes are a little "honkey" as well, so they'll be replaced too.

Mesa said that the MXR's line level is too much, and not recommended. They suggested rackmount.

So, I'm shopping once again - any suggestions?

remember that its a paralell fx loop so if you do use an effect like that, turn the mix allllllll the way to wet. that might help.
ideally, most eq's sound best in the front end anyways.

The effects loop on the F-Series is also +4 dB reference level. It is possible that the MXR 10 band eq has a -10 dB reference level. This being the case, the amp's effects loop in overdriving the eq's input.

I'm new here...just found this place...cool! Anyway, I've been an F-50 owner for just about 2 years now and for the most part I love this amp. I've used a GE-7 in the effects loop to warm up my low-medium gain sounds some with good results...worked very nicely. However, it was useless in front of the amp...moving any of the sliders out of the detent position caused a noticeable and ugly hiss, so that option was right out! But as a general rule, I don't use the GE-7 much with the amp unless I'm using the line-out (which I find pretty nasty as is). But even the GE-7 itself is not enough. From the GE-7 I run it through the speaker sim function of a Tech 21 TRI O.D., tweaking bass and treble a little more on that unit and then I do a little EQ tweaking finally on the board and I get an acceptable direct sound.

I use a 15 band dbx Graphic EQ in the FX loop of my ROV and it sounds fantatstic. I turn up the mix all the way.
