Hi folks,

I've been trolling these forums since I placed my order for my first ever Mesa amp, which of course is the Mark V!! I've been seriously wanting a Mark series amp when I learned that a Mark II C+ was plastered all over Master of Puppets and the Justice album (two of my faves). So I finally was in a position to achieve my dream and at a most fortuitous time indeed. When I'd first heard the Mark V had the II and IV modes it was, uh, orgasmic. At any rate my 2x12 vertical recto cab will be here this Thursday and the Mark V head should follow along next week.

I look forward to hearing more from you all and to my own contributions to these forums!

Let me be the first to welcome ya ChuckGuitar! Lots of nice & knowledgeable guys here, happy and willing to share ideas & advice!

I was one of the first to get their Mark 5 back in june, and from the very first time I fired it up, all the way to now, this amp never ceases to put a smile on my face!

And although Metallica isn't my bag ( when it comes to heavier bands, I'm more of a Kings X, Dream Theater of type guy), you should have very little difficulty getting MOP tones going!

It's going to take alittle time & tweaking, but trust me, it's in there.

Plus, this amp is sooooo much more that just metal. In my band, we like & play everything from Hendrix to Pink, to Ozzy & Prince, and even some Anita Baker, and a George Benson tune...this amp handles them all, and well!

Let us know how you like it man! :)

Congrats and welcome! I'm jealous. I'd love to trade in the 3/4 back for a Recto vert 2x12! Post pics when you get the rig setup!

Shang Chi 66: Nice to see another KX and DT fan in the house! I agree that the Mark V can DO IT ALL.

Oh man, as far as musicainship; Petrucci, Tabor, Pinnick, Gaskill, Portnoy? Just great skills all around!

Now, as far as actual songs go, I can only handle so much J. Labrie, and DT can get way out there with song length/complexity for the average listener, so usually, it's us musicians that are into them...

...but Kings X? To me, it's almost criminal that they, from waaayyy back in the early/mid 80's, when they first started, have never caught a good enough break to go completely over!

Great songs, strong lead & harmony vocals, thoughtful lyrics, with nice, memorable hooks...and excellent musicianship...what else are you supposed to do?

Oh yeah, I forgot, that's right...cute, boy like model looks? Flannel shirts? Sawing TV's & levitating drum risers? Make-up? Screw up some shows by forgetting lyrics, or showing up drunk? In-band fighting? Break-up the group afew times, then get back together for a reunion tour?

Just think about how many fads, flash in the pan one hit wonders, absolute joke bands, and different directions rock music has taken since then (when Kings X first came on the scene), and not one year, not one, were the mighty X able to break thru!

And in the meantime,...The Plasmatics? The Fine Young Cannibals? Sugar Ray? P-Diddy? Britney Spears? "I like sex and candy", Marcy Playground? "Mmm Bop", Hanson? Nickelback and Lady, freakin GA-GA!...are you flippin kiddin me!? No, no, NO! (I feel like Jack Black the first time he talked to that class in School Of Rock, )

Either Kings X did'nt do enough right things right, or enough wrong things right!

Yet, they continue to make music, and play on for no one other then themselves, and fans like you and me...that's pretty cool, and thats how you know you're in it for the right reasons!

Thanks for the welcome you two.

And thanks also for making me go back and giving my King's X albums a spin. I'd almost forgotten about those guys over the years with my dalliance into the more extreme ends of metal. But man.... Gretchen Goes to Nebraska still managed to kick my butt again.

Also, agreement on Dream Theater. I remember back when I heard "Pull Me Under" on the radio for the first time. My buddies wondering why the car suddenly stopped and the volume level went up when the solo started. And then after the song finished we were all just sitting there wondering who just melted our ears in an oh so good way. The funny part is we didn't EVER listen to the radio in the car back then. We just happened to catch the song while we were swapping a Metallica cd for a Megadeth one, if I recall rightly. But since then I've been a fairly avid follower of DT.

I do like to think I'm pretty all over on the musical map as far as tastes. About the only thing I can't really stomach is the rap/hip-hop stuff.

But on a related note... I am sooooooooooo ready for my Mark V to get here that it's not funny anymore! How do I cope with the tone void in my life until then, cause I've done the fetal-position/thumb-sucking thing to death now!

 That last sentence is great!

You'll love the Mark V, man. Make sure to dial up these settings when you get it:

You can mess with the gain and the mid slider to achieve different Petrucci tones over the years. Good stuff!

Pull Me Under is an awesome, awesome song!!!

So my Mark V head finally arrived yesterday (11-25-09) and with the familial obligations for Thanksgiving, I have yet to really get some quality time with it. Come tomorrow, however, and I suspect I won't emerge from the cave for at least a week!

Anyhow, here's the obligatory pic:

nice pic man. I love the color of your Jackson on the right. I bet those guitars sound sweet through the Mark V.

Holy F-Bomb that looks awesome. Congrats man. I put in an order for a combo next week. I can't wait to get it; probably in 2012 just before the world ends.

Loverly guitars too.

Welcome and congrats! :)

Nice rig and guitars! I have a buddy that has one just like the guitar on the left and it's a great sounding guitar, especially for heavy rhythm passages. He's promised me first right of refusal if he ever decides to sell it.

Again - congratulations!
