Hi All

I need a bit of advice on a mesa boogie amp. A friend of mine has offered to sell me his 5.25 mesa express head for a dirt cheap price as he is re-locating. I love the sound of this thing, but i currently have a relatively new marshall mr1936 2 x 12 cab ( 2 x 16ohms ) with a closed back. I know nothing about power/ohms etc, would this cab be a suitable fit ? Any help or point in the right direction would be appreciated.

Id be looking to use the set up live if it sounds ok, i play pop/cover stuff live where i use clean and overdriven sounds for both rhythm and lead, no hi-gain stuff is needed really. I normally currently mike my cabs/speakers unless its a smaller venue

Thx
Nick

Greetings Nick and welcome to the Boogie Board! I hope that you are already enjoying that 5:25 amp plugged into your Marshall cab. It seems to me from your post that the Marshall cab is loaded with two 16 ohm speakers. That translates into a 8 ohm connected load to your amp. Just plug that cab into your 8 ohm output and play your heart out! I'm sure it's going to sound fabulous!

Hello Nick, I bought a new LOPO open back 2 X 10 cab and installed two Eminence Legend 10s, 16 ohm wired in paralllel for an 8 ohm load, I really like the open sound and in my humble opinion it sounded more chimey than the Thiele cab I bought with my Express 25 head. The Lopo cab is really well made and really added to the sound of the amp. I still have the Thiele cab but do not use it very much. Good luck.
