not saying this is what is happening, but I had the same thing happen in a Splawn Quick Rod. I'm pretty sure it was on account of the button to engage/bypass the effects loop had gotten a little dusty. I pushed it a few dozen times, and voila! No more crazy amp level changes.

+1 on the tube screamer idea. They make a sick addition to a "rhythm" sound on your dirty channel too. Different variations on sick, but I've found with the LSC by going easy on the gain from the amp, and using a clean boost pedal, and a Barber LTD or a Home Brew Electronics Power Screamer, I...

the Ace is worth a demo. Especially if you are playing at less than ear splitting levels. The feedback you can coax from it is SO pleasing. It handles 7 string metal with ease. I even used it in a big band with an archtop, and it sounded pretty **** good

thank you for the posts on the JB! I don't know how this pickup has become the standard bridge pickup for metal. There are so many better choices out there. The Dimarzio Tone Zone, for one example.

Had similar issues in an Ace. Tamed it quite a bit with the diode/fat setting. The gain/master controls seem to be very forgiving, but I had to do it just right so as not to lose the tone.
