FINALLY...Mark III in my possession. I'm STOKED!

Congrats! I agree, I've had mine quite a while and still find new things with it. Fantastic amp. I keep getting very good (money wise) offers to trade but I can't bring myself to do it knowing I'd have seller's remorse soon after. You think you are happy now? Play for a while with her cranked up...

What changes to the sound when i turn it up ?

Got turned onto this by a studio engineer out of Nashville a while back and finally got one about a week ago. Wow. Pure bliss. He usually sells them on Ebay for a little cheaper than direct from the site. thetubecube.com

EQ stomp box for Mark III

I run a dual channel rack EQ, one channel in the front and one in the loop. Outstanding. You can get a used Art or similar brand pretty cheap. I have used these on amps with and without onboard EQ and much prefer them this way.

Anybody used these in their Mark IV?

Put some Winged Cs in my Mark III a couple of months ago and I am in love with them. I did try a Tung Sol preamp in V3 and was REALLY liking it until it died way way too quick :(

What pickups do you like with your Marks?

I'll be trying out a Neodymium magnet loaded pickup from a friend for a possible trade within the next two weeks and see how that works, always wanted to try one. APCpickups Persuader Lead Custom.

What pickups do you like with your Marks?

Yep agree, I've got a J.S. Moore Black Widow that I love in my Ibanez and had to drop it down a good bit or it was way to much for my amp. I actually put most of my pickups (any output) lower than normal, I just like the tone better that way.

What pickups do you like with your Marks?

I've tried several but my favorite so far is the Anderson H2+. No mud.

    Quick volume question

Thanks, I'll have to try that ratio out.

    Quick volume question

Ok, thanks. I'll have to a/b it a bit but I was thinking it sounded better w/ the Master high and the Lead Master lower than vice versa.

    Quick volume question

Mesa Mark III. If you are playing at less than club volume jamming w/ friends for instance........on the Lead channel........would it make a difference in tube tone if you crank the Master (by crank I mean 3-4) but keep the Lead Master very low (like on 1) or keep the Master low and crank the...

    speaker change for Mark III....

I've got a chance to try out some Warehouse Classic Lead type speakers....the British Lead.....I heard quite a few liked the more neutral character of this speaker for rock/thrash metal. Hopefully I will have some sort of review on this change in a month or so.

    speaker change for Mark III....

Thanks for the replies. I play a big BIG variety but by far the highest % is hard rock/thrash metal, probably why I've seen so many good things on the G12T-100 for that setup. Lots of good things about EVM too for sure. I got the V30/G12H30 on recommendation from Avatar when they built my cab...

    speaker change for Mark III....

Got a 60w Mark III head running into an Avatar 2x12 semi closed (oval opening in the middle) cabinet with one V30 and one G12H30. There some harsh middy stuff going on there that I just can't dial out. I see a lot of recommendations for G12T-100 for tighter bottom and no more mid spike. Less...

speakers for 60 watt Mark III

Ha, I must have accidently jumped to Mark V yesterday without realizing it. Thanks.

Anyone ever compare a JCM 800 2203 and a Mark IV?

Mark series can do an amazing number of things and do them very well......once you learn how everything affects the tone. Even with recommended settings, with your own personal setup, be prepared to spend a good bit of time tweaking. It's worth every minute though.

    Vintage 12ax7 in V1

Well, I have had a similar configuration in various amps through the years, just never anything NOS or vintage but I've heard enough from people that are not "corksniffers" that tried an old tube and fell in love w/ the change. I'm trying it at least in V1 and will report vs. the Tung Sol.

    Vintage 12ax7 in V1

Going with Raytheon black plate in V1 and then move on from there. Thanks again for the links.

    Vintage 12ax7 in V1

Thanks for that, I thought Lead was V3 alone. V1 will be tinkered with first.
