    Mark IV test drive....

Rhy2 is killer if you get it set up right. It can do blues to modded Marshal. It's the hardest channel to dial in however.

EAR PLUGS...what's the best for sound clarity?

The ER20s/Hearoes hi-fi are great. However, I don't think they have enough db reduction for heavy rehearsal schedules (3 hours every other day). I tend to use -30 db drug store ear plugs for rehearsal and then I use the Er20s for gigs.

Tube vs Solid State.... is it mostly illusion?

Tubes have a different harmonic profile than SS does, and that's a fact. One is not better than the other. It all comes down to taste. Personally, I like the sound of a tube power amp vs a SS power amp. However, I've found many SS distortion pedals that i prefer to some tube pre-amps.

Classic rock from a Mark IV?

I think there is an inherent mid hump in the Mark series that may be going directly against what you are looking for.

    My Mark IV Went Kaput!

I don't know 100% why it blew but since it blew while I flipped the power switch from tweed to full I'm going to blame that unless I start blowing fuses left and right. The tubes seem ok. I played through it for about 2 hours last night. Also, FWIW, I'm running the amp off of a Monster power...

    Mark IV R2 Love

I love R2. Right now I have it dialed in so that it sounds a lot like a highly driven AC30.

    My Mark IV Went Kaput!

:D It WAS the fuse. I guess I had never really seen a slow-blow fuse before. They don't go poof the same way an old school fuse does. Now I can see there is a break in the wire.

    Unhappy neighbors(THD Hotplate maybe)

Using a volume pedal in the loop will allow you to clip your preamp section, but it will not allow you to clip your power amp section. An attenuator is the only way to get both.

    My Mark IV Went Kaput!

My MKIV died last night. I had been playing it on tweed power for about an hour. I flicked it up to full power without letting it shut down and the power went out on the amp. No lights no nothing. There wasn't any smoke, it just simply and immediately lost power. I checked the fuse but it looks...

    Unreal Gibson Alex Lifeson ES-355

Wow! I'd have to play the guitar to know for sure, but that looks really early on the neck. I only have one guitar with one of these, but it's in the proper spot and I actually like the way it feels. That looks horrible IMHO.

What new guitar should I buy... Under 1000ish

Look for a used Carvin. They are great guitars and the resale value is low.

    MARK IV DISCONTINUED (FOR REAL)

Any word on parts availability in the future? I need to get a new handle for mine. I'd have to guess with this announcement the rumored MKV is a direct replacement on some level... Maybe a MKIV+.

Has any one ordered a Carvin custom guitar?

I have a CT6. I love it. A couple of warnings: 1 - if you buy a guitar from them, there is always a chance it won't come out perfect the first time and that you'll have to send it back for something. Mine showed up with a ding in the neck and a couple high frets. I was a little disappointed that...

    Carvin V3 head

I've played one and it is kinda like a tight recto but not compressed. The tightness is more because of the EQ curve. I think they are fizzy especially at low volumes. I think they are really killer for the price, but I have yet to hear a recording that has won me over. If you want to try one...

Hotplates & Your Mesa Boogie Amp

I use a THD with my Legacy live. I have the Legacy on 7. I haven't run across a sound guy yet who will let me run the hotplate louder than -12 db. The Legacy doesn't get it's mojo cooking until it's up to at least 5. Without the hotplate I'd have to run it at about 2 at clubs and bars.
