Solved my own problem. The schematics proved useful and it was the rectifier supply lead. The amp is happy and healthy and amazing as ever!

I'm assuming you mean the difference between 6L6s and EL34s? 6L6's are fatter with more bottom, the 34s have a little more brightness to them. It wont damage your amp, as long as you set your bias switch accordingly. DON'T mix them up!

Sovteks seem to be the bulk of what Mesa installs in their amps. Early on, they were putting a heat shrink material ove :) r the tubes with the Mesa logo on them, and now they are printing right on the tube. AFAIK they are still Sovtek, though. Never had an issue with a Sovtek. :)
