Confessions of a Simul Class Snob

Bought my first 60W IIC+ with Reverb and graphic and I absolutely love it. Ton's of gain and the sweetest singing high end without getting muddy on the bottom. Best cleans ever !!! Came with STR-415's and Original Tungsram ECC83's in V1-V4. The pre's have never been taken out and the pins are...

IIC+ Tune Up and Restoration- UPDATED

In two months my beloved number one DRG Imbuya 1X12 EV Combo 11/84 will be thirty. She has the original filter caps and although her plate voltage is still steady and she sounds like heaven and hell I am going to do a cap job including bias caps and EQ supply cap. She is also in need of a good...

Mark IIC to C+ gain increase

Every Mark series after the C+ used almost the same lead circuit up to and including the MK V. More than enough gain to do anything you could imagine. Compared to a stock IIC, the gain increase will be quite substantial.

STR 415 bias reading too high

The MPD is around 83%, so not too far off. What you have to worry about it the rise in current under load. What concerns me is why would you have 470V to the plates pulling 53mA ? A 60W should be between 448-460V even with a tube duet pulling just 20-25mA each. It may be time for a cap job, or...

How can I tell if a MKIV is the a or b revision

    A serial number past 6200 is likely a B. A detached power cord is also a B.

Finally played the MK V !!!!!

And it didn't work. All I got was loud pop's from the wattage switches and a stuck master volume. :( Channel 3 was totally dead. No faux IIC+ for me to try. And they just got the **** thing in !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    IIC+ Tone Epiphany

So, my DRG 38 needed a little maintenance and some cleaning and I pulled her from her Imbuya crypt. After doing some cleaning and spraying the grounds I decided to give her a play test, so I grabbed my trusty 1996 Music Man Luke I and plugged the amp into a Mesa 412FB and started. Right to the...

    X100/101 and 105 Plate Voltage's

I had the opportunity to play and scope out a IIC+ with an Export transformer. With no load the plates see 460V with the X100/X101 (Same Tranny) and 500V with the 105. Under load using a quad of medium plate current 5881's in both amps the X100/X101 was at 447V and the 105 was 493V. The...

A late serial # (MkIII Coliseum) anomaly

It's like the +'s 12,500 to 15,000 theory. I still can't prove there are any more than 1900 !!! In this case we need to look for anything between 500-604.

    another IIC anomally

My old SR # 12337 had a pull deep and was already a plus. I bet that 12,200 to 12,300 were all made in February, 1984.
