IMHO I think what needs to be determined here is at what point did the Dual Recto's change signifigantly tone wise compared to the ones with the original trannies. Was it a transformer change? Or was it a certain rev. in the curcit board? Both at the same time? At what point in the serial number...

On my early pre 500 DR's I use an overdrive (tube screamer) in front and run them as follows according to what type of power amp tubes I use.... 6L6's: Rectifier: Vacuum Tube Power: Spongy EL34's: Rectifier: Silicon Diodes Power: Spongy

The GT rating range is 4,5 or 6 You can ask for tubes other than GT's with these ratings from most of the on line tube stores, like Dougs tubes.com, the tube store.com, etc.

I run my early DR thur two JCM 800 series Marshall 4x12's (model 1982A) cabs that are loaded with the original Rola-Celestion G12-80's with the 444 speaker cones. They just Kill!!!, Way better than cabs loaded with V30's or 75's!

I'd heard the whole "different tranny" thing that George Lynch spoke of. I actually bought my first pre 500 before I ever heard of it. Not knowing it was a pre 500 when I got it. So!, is it right to say that most people or should I say most the people on this board belive the pre 500's desirable...

If all the pre 500 DRs and a lot of the post DRs have the same trannies, then I supose it's in the verious curcit board Revs that make the pre 500 DRs unique from the post 500. If that's not it, what's their appeal? and don't say because they sound awesome, I know they sound awesome!, I own DRs...

Actually Ruby tubes does not make their own tubes. If the Mesa 440's are Ruby's they're more than likely to be Ruby 6L6CGMSTR's that are made at the Shugang factory in China. I've heard that these tubes are suppose to be pretty good. They're actually a little cheaper (in price) than the TAD's...

What are STR440's?, relabeled 6L6 Sevt's?, 6L6 winged=c='s?, or maybe Sovtek? I haven't use Mesa labeled tubes in my Rectos for so long I don't know what they're offering now. Don't know what you were useing the 7581A's in, but you should try either the TAD 6L6 tall bottle or small bottle tubes...

The two channel Triple I use to own loaded w/ EL34's blew away the`98 model two channel Dual I had loaded w/ 6L6's. IMO the two channel Triples sound way better with EL34's than 6L6's. :wink:

Nor have I, I've been on the same quest for a small logo, attached cord Triple Recto for a while and have never seen one yet. Somewhere,(I'm not sure where) I have an old Mesa single page flyer anouseing the release of the Triple Rectos, but darn it if I can't find it! I'm sure it would shed...
