    SPAX-7's

Replaced my old 12ax7s with Spax7s in all preamp slots - noticed what I thought was a big difference at the time - quieter and a bit tighter bottom end - happy enough until I was fortunate enough to get a 1950s long plate mullard ecc83. I put it in V1: this not only improved my tone instantly...

Mullard ecc83 in V1 anyone? and Phase Inverter??

Just wondering if anyone else has tried these? I've become a bit obsessed with changing tubes and experimenting with tone lately and have just put a 1950s long plate mullard ecc83 in my boogie mk4b V1 position as well as a couple of nos short plate ones in V2 and 3... Holy **** - this is the...

    Retubing pre-amp section

Hello, I've just upgraded my output valves to =C= 6L6s and my MK4 has never sounded so good. Only problem now is that I want to upgrade my pre-amp valves...never one to be happy! Can anyone recommend an upgraded valve that might have a similar impact as the =C= ? Cheers, Jason

Winged C or not Winged C?

Thanks guys - I got my matched quad of =C= and you're right - they sound amazing! I didn't think I'd notice much difference but I did! Now I want to upgrade my pre-amp valves...can anybody recommend any pre-amp valves that will have a sinmilar impact? Cheers, Jason

    MK 3 Tubes

Hello, Your EL34s are fine and will handle the power output no problem...just depends what sound you're after...te el34s are supposed to sound more 'british' as opposed to the more 'american' sounding 6L6's. (I could never tell much difference really) I replaced my pre-amp valves in my boogie...

    Effects loop problems anyone?

Can anybody help me? I've got a MK IV B short body combo, circa 1993, and I run my Boss DD3 through the effects loop. I generally leave the loop open all the time just to have a mild delay across the board. I've noticed a few problems occuring recently - firstly, the volume has been...

Winged C or not Winged C?

Yeah - the 430s are definitely Russian and could even be the same valve...although the Electro Harmonix EH's are apparently improved versions - larger plate or something according to eurotubes anyway! My STR430s were a couple of years old which may account for the improved tone on the Electro...

Winged C or not Winged C?

Just wondering if it was worth putting a matched quad of Svetlana Winged C 6L6GC in my Boogie MKIV? I've just replaced my Mesa Boogie STR430s with 4 matched Electro Harmonix 6L6EH and must admit they sound great - much more harmonic response and tight bottom end in comparison to the much more...

    SPAX 7s in all V positions...Holy S**T!!

Has anyone else out there replaced all their pre-amp valves with Mesa Spax7's? I got a good deal on 5 of them and thought 'what the hell'. My god...what a difference! Instantly gone were the irritating radio signals and high volume swooshing when high gain was dialled in. I already had a Spax...

    Radio Mesa

Cheers Dom - totally accept your point on not wanting to spend a fortune in the long run on repairs. Think I'll save up and get a better one instead. Like the look of the firman unit - if it works with your Roadster it'll surely do the job with mine! :)

    Radio Mesa

Thanks for the advice guys - I've just replaced my V1 with a SPAX7 and still received the signals, albeit reduced. However I think I'll try a power conditioner. I've seen them advertised but they vary greatly in price. There are some on ebay for about £30 although there are others nearer...

    Radio Mesa

I'm picking up radio signals on my MKIV - and even got the local taxi firm during a gig last week! Has anyone any tips on reducing this irritating side-effect of valve amps? My leads are all top-drawer and guitars are humbuckers and earthed etc. Obviously I know that this comes with the...

    Tube noise - help needed.

Cheers Dennis - I'll go class A and give it a go...don't fancy paying out for unnecessary parts! These things can be pretty costly to keep on top of - but they're worth it!

    SPAX7 in Mark IV - V1 position

They do fit...close though - I've just replaced the V1 in my MKIV B, it was a squeeze! Worth it as the noise reduction is noticable.

    Tube noise - help needed.

Thanks Tremoverb, I think I'll replace it - but I'll have to wait until next month - pay day's been and gone and blew my spare cash on a spax7 and 12AX7. I'll try and get a matched pair from mesa then I'll have 2 spares :)

    Tube noise - help needed.

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question to any valve veterans out there, but one of my valves (6L6) in my MK4 makes a rattly/vibration noise in response to bassier frequencies...It basically sounds like something mettalic rattling about inside. This stops when I place my finger on the...

SPAX7-A Are they worth the extra cash?

Hey thanks for that - I hadn't even thought of using a power conditioner - at least it might stop me picking up radio signals. I think I'll go for the SPAX7- A and the conditioner!

SPAX7-A Are they worth the extra cash?

Hi - I was thinking of replacing the V1 tube in my MkIV as my amp's getting a little noisy on higher volumes. I've been told to try a SPAX7-A premium tube instead of the usual 12AX7. These tubes are more expensive...are they worth the extra or shall I just stick with the 12AX7? :?
