I've had/have them both. The Twin is great at the clean sound, it's not built even half as solid as the Mesa IMHO. The Express has a sweet clean, and many more usable voices, when I place it on an amp stand I'm not afraid the back piece will snap and hit the speaker.

Why is that? My RKII combo has a mid-range spike in comparison to a the head/cab. :?:

I had to reply to this one. I had a LSS, loved it, I now have a RK II and Express 5:50. All of these amps sound good with the Barber pedals. For me, the Direct Drive is my Marshall in a stompbox, Tone Press for a subtle compression sound and recently I purchased the LTD SR to add a little gain...

Man, a lot of no B.S. players here, can't hide going cable to amp. It occurred to me that there are al ot of hits on Mesa for being so complicated in design, but really their features allows you to cut a lot of effects, maybe making your set up simplier.

Does anybody play guitar-cord-amp, no effects? If you do, what amp, guitar and music do you play?

My RK came with SPAX7 in V1s (I think there are two V1s?).

My shop had both Expresses side by side, I heard no problems on either (maybe we didn't crank it enough?). There's a fan in the 5:25? I don't see or hear one in my 5:50. The fan in my RK makes noticeable sound.

No worries here, I understood what you were saying. I can't use the heavy sounds of a ROV, I certainly wouldn't say that amp sucks!

Not while playing, just sort of thumping the side in a quiet, non-electric moment. The Twin in this case sounded like a thud and the Mesa had a solid ping sound. 40oz malt liquor? No thanks, I'm more a Patron thrower, shot glasses are lighter! :mrgreen:

In the shop I frequent, one of the guys commented on the sound of amp cabs when tapped. There was a Twin and the Express I bought side by side and I couldn't believe the difference. Maybe that accounts for people swearing those expensive wood cabs sound better? Can some of you experience players...

Yep, but if you're on A/B with no cab, it sounds weak. I dunno, it's pretty hard to say without seeing the way he's got it plugged up. If you don't have anything but the combo you're supposed to plug the dummy load into B.

Mine was on the A+B setting, in the middle, when it did that.

To the original poster, I had the LSS and loved it. It didn't have the cleanest clean, I used a Twin for that. I decided to get a Roadster and omit the Twin/LSS combination, but didn't really like the V30/closed back sound, jumped to the RKII combo (weighs like 500lbs.). The RKII is a keeper for...
