Mark IV EQ... recording and live

I always try to use the same settings both live and in the studio. But since we're always micing up our amps at gigs, I do not necessarily keep the settings that sounds good at stage, but those that sounds good through the mix.

    recording Mark IV...tips?

I find SM57 pretty useless for micing V30's. The sound tend to get quite mid-heavy and thin. But I would place the 57 so close to the speaker as possible without touching the grille, and put it just a bit more than half way in to the core. From there it's just to add som high's on the EQ in your...

    Dream Theater rules

They've lost themselves completely if you compare them to earlier albums. They play more power metal and badly structured ballads now, and I certainly know a lot of better bands to top the hierarchy.

    Dream Theater rules

I think the album was quite bad. Period.

DT-Black Cloud and Silver Lining tones

There's no Mark V on this album. Why use a "modeling amp" when you have the originals

Whats with the John Petrucci obsession?

I don't think his new tone fitted the new album's mix at all and it sounds like he's miced it with a SM57, or just pulled the prescense on a mark IV (I know he uses a Mark IIC+ now)

odd mark iv question - problem with new (used) amp

you should be able to hear the fan across the room, but not in the buzzing way. About the fuse, this would be a sign of some snuffy things in the power section

    Randall V2

I've been trying a few of the V2's, and they're pretty usable, except from the clean channel, that totally lacks the high-end spark. I've been facing some problems with the FX-loop as well. But the distortion is quite good, so the amp is really good for the price.

Help verifying which version Mark-IV head I have

absolutely an A, as you can see on the two mono FX loops in square form, rather than the stereo loop with triangle shape on a B

Mark IV question - Petrucci Ld1/Ld2 - Mod?

for any slight notice in volum change with distorted boost, you'll have to turn the preamp gain pretty low anyway. I think most of petrucci's tone builds up around being played loud at gigs. His tone wasn't special at all in the new chaos in motion DVD.

What Do You Get When You Mix a Recto and a Stiletto? HEAVY!!

it wasn't that heavy.. had more of the classic metal vibe.
