In the end I didn't really want the cab to be any heavier than it was already ! So it's still as it came from the factory. I ended up getting an EV thiele to get some extra spread and bottom end. They do work well together -an open back with the closed & ported thiele.

There is only one Thiele and it refers to a specific design which has a closed back and front side port. If it mentions EV loaded, then it comes equipped with either a Black Shadow EV or OEM EV. The difference being, Mesa branded "Black Shadow" or, no label "OEM", Original Equipment...

Did you attatch the EV with just the 4 screws from the C90, as I think I see 2 holes unused ? It looks to be a good, probably tight fit though! Worthwhile difference in sound ? Reason I ask is, I only know how the EV sounds in a thiele. Thanks for posting Lyn

As for the humming from the step-down, it could be the laminations. The steel alloy sheets, on which copper wire coils are wound, can get noisy over time. Lyn
