New Mesa Owner - Troubled by hiss

Unplug your guitar cord from the amp and then check if the hiss is still there. If it's still there it may be a tube, or several tubes. Cheap tubes can create huge amounts of hiss in high gain amps. If it goes away then it's somewhere in the signal path. Start with just a guitar and guitar...

Can one be a Fender and a Mesa Boogie Guy?

I decided to use them both....at the same time. Boogie Mark IIB and 65 Fender Bassman AA165, I do use one pedal, a Barber Silver LTD. Other wise it's just pure rich saturated tube tone

Lonestar Special or 25:5 Express for more British El84 tones

I think the "NEW" tones I'm after are going to have to come from an EL84's. My last amp purchase was a 1981 Mark IIB, and that was a long time ago. So I hear all these wonderful new sounds and start bloating up, just full of GAS. I have figured out no one else does what Boogie does with an...

    Ace + Lonestar Classic?

I haven't gigged with a LSS and an Ace together but I've used 2 amp heads for quite a while now. Biggest thing is getting rid of ground loops. I use a Radial BigShot and a Ebtech hum eliminator. Both amps have effects loops and I use an Intellifex in one and a Xpression in the other. Both amps...

    Rectifier in the Express amps

I'm really getting more interested in the 25-5 Express. Still have yet to hear one for real  I doubt I'll get to play one prior to ordering. What type of rectifier do they use, solid state/Diode or tube? Also are the tube sockets attached to the PCB or the chassis? Any clean and...

Share your experiences with this NOS newbie

I like the old Mullard ECC83's in V1 and V2 nice rich tone. Telefunkens are darker to my ears and the Bugle Boys are brighter, as are the Phillips Miniwatts. The Seimans have a very nice sweetness to them. The RCA and GE tubes seem brighter also, but still sound good. I'm using the new Tungsol...

    how to mic up mkiv

My experience has been very good with the e906. Placement is still a factor buy not not as critical as a 57. What you hear from the cab is what shows up on the recording. For me that is major, I don't like to EQ mixes because of inaccurate equipment. I don't know how your getting a e906 cheaper...

Comparisson of the Stiletto Ace to the Express 5:50

Not really apples to oranges, 50 watt verses 50 watt, but difference in one tone to another tone, versatility, tweak-ability. Cleans verse cleans and dirt verses dirt. I'm looking for some different tones for my studio. I have all vintage 6L6 amps now. So I'm looking with something with a...

Comparisson of the Stiletto Ace to the Express 5:50

I'm curious if anyone has been able to A-B these amps yet. I was leaning towards the Ace and now they came out with the 5:50 Express. Other than the obvious power tube difference it would be intersting to hear the actual tone differences. Or at least some ones opinion of the differences. The...

    Mark Series graphic equalizers

Wow!!! Boogiebabies your are the well to draw knowledge from. That was really some great info. I often wondered about the quality of the on board EQ. I have mine switchable along with the reverb and channel switching from an old Rockman Octopus That way I turn it on or off clean or dirty. I do...

Mark AND Recto at the same time????

I've been using a mark IIB and a 65 Bassman for years. I'm really pumped about the Stiletto Ace or the new Express to retire the Bassman. I gotta agree with the other guys on using more than one amp, the textures you can achieve are amazing.

favorite cables for use with Mark III/IV?

Stevie Ray liked the cheap Radio Shack type coiled cables as did Hendrix. Cesar Carrillo Diaz had Stevie try some Monster guitar cables and Stevie told him to go and get his old kind. Carlos thought that maybe it acted as a High frequency filter for them. Anyway they hated the "Great " guitar...

    how to mic up mkiv

I use a boom mike stand. That way I can position them for best sound, at least to my ear. They are really close in sound to the old 409's. Great price for them too.... I use the normal position primarily live, but experiment when recording.

    how to mic up mkiv

All great Ideas. I recently trialed 2 Sennheiser 906's (not the 609's) and was blown away. They made my SM57's sound anemic. They are more expensive but IMHO worth it. Ok now that your miking your sound. This is from the Sound man in me. You don't need 2 Cabinets unless it's outdoors or a 300+...

    Mark IIB verification

Here's a link to Mesa Boogie Serial numbers. 3 digit serial numbers had 15" speakers. the Mark 1 was the first 300 of the lineage, then the Mark IIA. IMHO you can't go wrong buying any Mark series amp, they are all good with some being unbelievably spectacular...
