    I'm finally home!!

I made the change 28 years ago ... from Fender, Ampeg and at that time Marshall. Once your used to it, you can't go back. I never even had to move to the II or III or IV ... the original got me to the tone I wanted ... been satisifed ever since. :D

'78 Boogie & My New Slide Guitar Project

UPDATE on the WASHBURN project: Replaced the SD Alnico 2 Pro Neck with a 59 Bridge (in the neck). Posted a quick clip to update. Reminder ... I was trying to make "an SG like slide guitar with a vintage edge" to play with my old Boogie. I think the Boogie sounds good with anything ... love...

    A Request for a Mark-IV video

Man that makes me wonder if it's just too complex. I'm sensitive to your situation ... I had an Ampeg when I started out that gave me fits no matter what I did ... then a Marshall that was a bit better. But I honestly rarely adust any of the knobs on my original Boogie no matter where I play...

    Old Mesa add...

I love looking at the newer equipment ads ... I still like the old stuff ... LOL Just kidding ... I've got some older ads in my file cabinet ... from the '78 Boogie purchase. :D

    What's Your Favorite?

I voted for the Mark 1 ... because I got mine in '78 (they were really not Mark 1's cause the Mark 2 had not come along yet). Anyway ... I've never needed another amp. Before the Boogie I had Ampeg, Fender & Marshall. 28 years! :D So I really don't know what the others will do but that's OK...

Ahh the good ole days, or a mess of MK's

Now that's impressive. I was worried about buying one. I got the big cabs thing out of the way with the Ampegs & Marshalls From then on ... one Boogie ... one speaker ... but that is still impressive.

My new (sort of) Mesa amp...WOW

I am using groovetubes - Chinese 6L6 power tubes - no different from originals in my opinion. Tried many groove tube preamp tubes - hands down winner ECC883 groove tubes in V1 & V2 slots.

    10" speakers for Mark 1 ?

These guys have a 2x10 listed in their prices ... very pricy ... but looks like good work. http://www.vintageboogie.com/ I asked them for a picture. I might be able to buy the wood working equipment to get back into building them again for this kinda loot. I built the 12" cabinet in the pix...

Got any ideas?--I need the 1979 "Mesa Enginering"

The closest thing they are going to have is the Mark I Reissue. It's a bit different with the tweed wiring I think. But that's gonna be the closest. :D http://www.mesaboogie.com/Product_Info/Mark_Series/Mark_I_Reissue/mark_i_reissue.html

Mark I reissue tone readjustement when switching to 60 W?

For what it's worth ... you are basically using the same settings I'm using except for master volume ... I probably run between 1.3-1.8 always. Use 60w watts ... when gigging 60w or 100w if I'm getting lost in the mix. But I still never go over 2 on the master. It gets tight (which may be...

Mark I reissue tone readjustement when switching to 60 W?

That's strange ... the original Boogie I have doesn't need any readjustment ... not that I can detect. I wonder why? I wonder what's different?

'78 Boogie & My New Slide Guitar Project

I bought this Washburn WI62 Idol for about $300 ... rewired it ... new pickups ... Seymour Duncan AP2 neck and Gibson 498T bridge. What do you think? How does it sound with my Boogie? Washburn WI62 AP2(n)/498T(b) lo-fi URL: http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=4472396&q=lo...

I used to have Altecs & JBLs ... they were pretty bright ... especially the JBLs ... both brighter than the EV12L. The EV12L has a better midrange and more balance. I still have mine that I bought back in 1978 with my Boogie. If it helps ... all of my attached clips are recorded with the...

MARK I Reissue - Your Favorite Settings

Actually ... that particular song ... I didn't really go for a Santana sound, It's a bit more on the middle pickup / lead pickup. The best way to get that sound is really on the neck pickup ... at least for me. So even though a Santana song ... not really a Santana sound.

MARK I Reissue - Your Favorite Settings

I think the 3 Presence and 7 mids get it for me ... my pickups are 8.3k neck and 8.8k Alnico 5s ... if you've got something stronger (like a 14.4k 498T Gibson pikup) that might not work. Does for me - listen to the Santana number at my sounclick site. Granted it has a bit more zing to it with...

MARK I Reissue - Your Favorite Settings

Thanks for the comments: The Presence (on the back) adds brightness ... full up it could even be harsh. New strings and run on 3 is best for me. Older strings with not quite as much brightness ... can sometimes fix by putting on 4 or 5. If you willing to go basier on the guitar tone ... you...

MARK I Reissue - Your Favorite Settings

You couldn't have said anything nicer. Larry Carlton was the reason I bought both the Boogie and a semi-hollow body guitar. I've always loved the guitar/amp combination. When I was playing 6 nighters when I was younger I was always fighting the tone. One night great ... next night same place...
