How different is the EV speaker used on older Mark combo amps vs the Black Shadow celestion speaker on newer Boogie Mark VII combo amps?

Let me correct myself. The magnet structure of a 12L weighs 16 pounds. I know because I had one salvaged off the broken basket assembly of one that was in a cabinet that took a header off a stage. Since I didn't weigh the basket assembly I don't have the total weight.

How different is the EV speaker used on older Mark combo amps vs the Black Shadow celestion speaker on newer Boogie Mark VII combo amps?

Actually an EVM-12L weighs 16 pounds. I had the MC-90 in my widebody Mark IV and it was OK but I definitely consider the EV to be superior. I no longer have that amp so I can't compare the EV to the 90 at this time. I have yet to find any instance in which an Eminence speaker was the best...

How different is the EV speaker used on older Mark combo amps vs the Black Shadow celestion speaker on newer Boogie Mark VII combo amps?

I gather up EVM-12Ls as I find them if they're inexpensive and in good condition. I plan to fill a 4x12 with them when I have four saved up for the task. The EV is a tight fit even in a Mark II combo. You have to rotate it just right so the frame doesn't contact any tubes or shields. It's...

Effects Loop gain on Mark V 90

Ah, I see now. Using the hard bypass switch causes a huge volume increase, now I know why. I've been having a problem using two separate amps and one stereo effects setup, trying to treat it as two independent effects loops, one for each amp. But it's not really two independent effects...

Effects Loop gain on Mark V 90

What should be the effects loop gain on the Mark V 90 with the FX drive level centered? I'm asking because it's way low compared to loop bypassed on mine.

Mesa mark III blue stripe layout and capacitors(are these correct values)?

FYI the blue stripe is an 85 watt amp, not 100. With simul-class you lose a few watts.

What is it in my Mark III Blue stripe?

Yes. Just be aware that the V30 is a 60 watt rated speaker so you wouldn't want to crank the amp all the way or it would eventually damage the speaker. The Blue Stripe is an 85 watt amp. But who really cranks them? They're SO loud as it is. In my 30+ years of being a Boogie owner, only...

What is it in my Mark III Blue stripe?

I also see a G12T75 speaker in there. If the amp doesn't sound its very best, that speaker could be at fault. An EVM-12L is the best possible speaker for a Blue Stripe. Second would be a Mesa branded Vintage 30.

Mark V 90 watt tube rolling

Stick a 1/3 octave (31 band) graphic EQ in the loop, I recommend an Alesis DEQ 230 or 830D, and start tweaking sliders. I don't care what your tone is, it can be improved with a little EQ adjustment. I live and die by the EQ and once you find out how even just a few small tweaks can turn a...

Mark V 90 watt tube rolling

I had a Mark IVB and traded it for a Mark V 90 which is much more to my liking. Nothing really wrong with the IVB, except that its output level was always too high for bedroom practice and I wanted its tones at that low level because that's really where I do most of my playing. I also did not...

    Blue Angel thoughts?

I run mine with a Marshall Power Brake and any of my external cabinets (1x12, 2x12, or 4x12) according to my desire of the moment. It works well like that.

    Blue Angel thoughts?

What makes the Blue Angel work for me is its extremely smooth transition from clean to overdrive. There's a range in mine that gives me such a subtle transition, it can be hard to tell at certain settings if the tone is clean or a bit dirty. That's one of the things I value highly. If...

For Sale Mesa Coliseums -- Mark IIB+, Mark III no-stripe, Mark III blue stripe

Nice collection, a bit out of my price range, though. I do have a long head blue stripe. It's plenty loud enough for me. For metal there's nothing better.

Help: Mesa Strategy 400 Poweramp - no output channel a

Yes of course. You can just swap the left channel preamp tubes with the right channel preamp tubes first, and see if the problem moves.

NAD: Mesa Boogie Mark VII head. WOW

I really appreciate you posting the gut shots of these amps in particular. As an amp tech and all-around electronics technician, I find those photos to be very informative and give me a notion of the serviceabilty of these amps should they need it. I would rate their serviceability as good...

    Mark III EQ/Rev footswitch replacement

It's just two push switches and a TRS stereo cable. One switch shorts sleeve (ground) to tip, the other shorts sleeve (ground) to ring. Not sure if it's tip that's EQ or tip that's Reverb, but any stereo switch following that wiring will work. I'm holding out to find an authentic one. I...

Q: Value of my Mark IIB?

With a loop you have access to any reverb ever made. Not a problem. And reverb is feasible to retrofit to the amp as well, if you want the Mesa reverb circuit. It's still a fair amount of labor because you have to hand build a tube stage, but it's possible.
