    Hi, zipties, and cable holders will get you started. to get really neat cabling you'll have to learn how to make your own cables. buy several feet of cabling and a bunch of neutrik or G&L ends. its not too hard.

    Great suggestions blueracer. One other thing I would suggest is changing out the tungsram tubes for a new production 12ax7 like a JJ ecc83 and see if it helps they could be going microphonic or whistling in 290. From my experiance NOS (tungsram, sylvania, mullard ect) 12ax7's don't mix well...

    Hi, the midi mod is a rare mod. not really worth it as its not flexible in setting the midi channels. there is no "midi store" button like on newer pre's. Unless you get a quad with the mod I don't know of anyway to do it. I recommend the RJM Amp Gizmo to switch functions via midi...

    Hi, How old is your 2:90, so your saying that its noisy then after a few minutes you hear a *pop* then the noise goes away? or is it lower? Have you tried swapping Preamp tubes or Power tubes?

    quad overall volume on channel 2

    the other 2 are small orange sprauge. 220uf 100v. they are perpendicular to the front of the quad. on the right hand side next to the "on" & standby switches. I replaced these with 220uf 350v untill I get the smaller ones. Changing all these caps really improved my quad. the Main outs are not...

    There are 6 large filter caps in side the quad. When I fixed mine I changed 8 of them.

    Hi, I recommend you have the filter caps replaced inside the quad. worked wonders for mine. for some reason quad's usually have issues with channel 2. But the installing new filter caps fixes the problem for me.

    Converting Simul 395 to run EL34'S

    You might want to try EH 6ca7's they fit in the 395 pretty good. sounds good too. I still have the top cover on. I use Tung Sol 6550's & EH 6ca7's in my Simul 395.

    Mesa Quad Preamp: I agree very Mark 2c+ and Mark3, Strategy series: One Word, H U G E. thats the only way I can describe it. Massive Volume and tone. I really like these.

    If its ground loop hum, then try an ebtech Hum eliminator. They have rack and non rack versions. The non rack version is only $60 USD.
