    Quad pre and IIC+ comparison

You've got to remember that a lot of the IIC+ tone comes from the power amp. If you don't have a Mesa Simul Class power amp with the Quad, it's safe to assume that your tone will be further away from the tone of a IIC+.

It is a SUPER BOOGIE! Pics of my new Mesa "head"

Long ago and far away, a friend of mine gave me the little tube amp from his reel to reel tape recorder, and told me I could use it as a fuzz for my new Ampeg V-4 head and 4x12 cab. The tone was outstanding. I didn't hear another 'fuzz' like this until around '97, when I bought a Fender Prosonic...

    Which 4x12 for a Triaxis?

The oversized version gives you more bottom, so metal players will prefer that. Mark Tremonti says the same thing in one of his YouTube videos.

    EL-34 in a 50/50?

Having at least two options would be cool, so I guess that's why the new power amps have EL34 capability. It might be easier to just get a new power amp. I know Guitar Center was blowing out the 2:100 for $500 a couple of years ago. Maybe they'll have something this year for the sale next...

Triaxis sounding like a Solid State??

I've heard Triaxis clips on this forum that sound somewhat solid state, and have heard others that capture the dynamics of the Quad and Mark series perfectly. To get more 'tubeness' swap the pre amp tubes. Here's a clue: I put some relatively new Sovtek tubes from an old Trem-O-Verb into a '78...

    Cheap Power amp for Tri-axis?

My V-Twin pedal doubles as my backup. Sounds pretty good through the PA. I haven't gigged with the Triaxis yet, but when I do, I will definitely keep the V-Twin around.

    Triaxis Tone?

I have a Triaxis, and I know that swapping pre amp tubes spices it up very nicely. Have you tried tube substitutions with your Triaxis? Also, I'm thinking about a Quad myself. Should sound great with my 2:100 power amp.

    Express 5:50 review

Rabies, here's an idea: Rectoverb head, 3/4 back Mesa 2x12 cab, V-Twin pedal. I'm really thinking about this setup for the exact same reasons you mentioned above. I love the cleans on the 5:50, but a Recto it aint. The clean volume on the Rectoverb is excellent, too.

So I tried EL34 tubes in my ROV....

Congrats on your discovery! I used to do the same thing with my Trem-O-Verb, and my observations were exactly the same. This is exactly why I want a Road King II. 6L6s and EL34s switchable in the same amp. You can't lose!

    Summer breeze on Express 5:50...

Sounds like faulty tubes. Swap and compare. The technical term for that sound is Dust In the Wind

Stiletto Stage 2 vs. Express 5:50

I played the ACE and 5:50, and the cleans are great on both. As mentioned you get a bit more versatility with the 5:50, and the 2x12 configuration pushes a lot more air. Even at low volumes, the 2x12 combo sounds great. With that said, I still prefer the Rectoverb over both. Excellent cleans...

Local dealer tells me not to buy a Boogie!

Even GC sales people are guilty of Mesa bashing at times. I recently went to do an A/B between the new 5150III and the Road King. Mr. Knowledgeable tells me the 5150III is way better in versatility and tone, and that would certainly be untrue in most opinion polls. Another GC rep, different...

mark III vs. Quad & 50/50

The Quad and 50/50 would sound great, but you would be missing the Simul Class power that you get with the Mark III. An old 295 would be a sure thing, because they have Simul Class and the Class A feature. The 2:90 has Simulclass, but no Class A.

    6V6 Power Tubes in a 2:100 ??

Sorry, no clips yet. I'll see what I can do later this month.

Why does boogie like the Flab so much?

What speaker cabinet are you using?

Has anyone nailed the "Brown Sound" with a Stilett

I agree. I think the Stilleto Ace dials in the brown sound much easier. I tried the combos and the 4x12, and the 4x12 definitely gets you closer to the early EVH sound. That's physics for ya' It seems as though you would be able to dial in the same tone on the Stilleto II. Haven't tried that yet.

    Road King Head or Combo?

'Tis true. Combo vs. head and cabinet will always sound different. Judging from the Harmony-Central reviews, I concluded that more players were happier with a head and 2x12 cabinet vs. the combo version of the same amp. I tried it a few times myself, and the separate cabinet wins. I had a Recto...

Has anyone nailed the "Brown Sound" with a Stilett

I got a pretty good 'brown sound' from the RK Series I. 2 EL34s, tube rectifier, spongy, and I think Pentode, or whatever option was for lower wattage. I've also heard some really good EVH ish clips with an old JCM 800, one power tube, and maxed volume. It was very, very good. If it doesn't...

    I need amp advice

A used Road King Series I would also do everything you're describing. If you were going to sell your current Rectifier, then the price difference wouldn't be so great. I also like the Triaxis setup. I've got the 2:100 and a Peavey Valverb in a five space rack. Pretty simple. But for the sake...

    92rf 1F

Best mod for a '92 is new tubes. Try the TAD tubes. I think Petrucci uses them as well.
