Another Recto Horizontal 2x12 Speaker Change?

Well I'm thinking about it. Long story... short... I revamped the Recto cab with a v30/Scumback M-75 to go better with the Stiletto Ace. This setup works really well. Was going to move the Ace to a headshell but have since bagged those plans. Instead will move the M-75 and the chassis back to the Ace Combo.

In the meantime I'm looking to use the Recto cab with the Mark v:90 for live work. That cab is a nice size and logistically easy to move around. Never liked the original dual v30s with the V... just too much midrange hump. Have run the current v30/Scumback M-75 pairing with the V for the last few sessions and while it's really nice for the brighter voiced Stiletto, it is way too midrangy for the V. Yea the M-75 is a main contributor but find overall that cab has less bottom end then my WB 1x12 with either a MC-90 or a Heritage G12-65 in it. The V does pretty well with the G12-65.

So descending down the speaker/cab rabbit hole once again I'm fishing for suggestions that would benefit the V and that cab. Something with more bottom end, a bit scooped and with some top end sparkle. With a spare MC-90 laying around, will probably try that first with the v30 ala the Road King approach. But I bet there are other ideas.

Following. I have a M-75 and a G12-65 sitting in boxes waiting for my wicker replacement grills for my Mark V and matching 2x12 vertical recto cab. When I get my grills I was just going to pull both v30s out to replace with these and compare with my other 2x12 vertical recto cab. Might slide in a v30 to pair with either speaker to see what sounds best and different from the factory config.

V30+Redback? The G12H-150 is really wonderful by my lights, and people rave about the combination with the V30. I tried the V30 and 12L together and liked the that. 12L+Redback is my personal favorite. But I'd be curious about G12-65 + Redback also. The Redback is a sensitive speaker and might he louder than some others. But the easy speaker distortion you get from the more traditional speakers will still cut through a volume difference won't it?

Well probably should have mentioned this... the cab on the LHS is a no-name 2x12 vert with a v30 (openback top) and a 200W series II EVM12L (closed bottom). It's really by far the best sounding cab with the V, great bottom, a bit scooped with nice top end. Don't find myself messing with the EQ very much when using it. Logistically, even with casters it's a PITA for one guy to move around on a regular basis.

Wondering if anyone has run a EVM with something else in a Recto 2x12 cab with a V?

I put a J75-LDC in my Stiletto 1x12 and have really liked it.

I just swapped my M-75 back into the Ace Combo. It's a winner.

Ok still kicking this around. I've swapped the MC-90 back in to the Recto 2x12. It's running the pseudo Road King Cab config, Mesa V30/MC-90 and the modified back cover. Great cab for the LSS but for the V:90 it's missing something. It's a bit too tight and immediate, lacking the low end resonance and fullness that the WB 1x12 has. Pretty sure the cab is playing into it. It's not bad but I'm wondering if I should try something like the Redback with the v30 or something else with the MC-90? Not doing 2 v30s that's for sure.

One thing about the Redback is that it is pretty sensitive. So with either of those it would make an interesting mix. It has a more natural character so might blend well? I haven't tried many combinations, just the EVM, which is beautiful.

Such a subjective thing but I really like a redback trad I loaded so I would try the redback in the closed and mc90 open. The 12L/mc90 is well vetted for greatness so nothin new there.

The horizontal I picked up this year came with v30/DV77 which is better than I expected and maybe "better" than a standard recto stock. You'd lose some of that open and I would try the v30 in the open spot 1st.

Are you running the RB/EVM both closed? Gonna have to try this with my trad RB's and OS EVM's together.

Yea no kidding

Just fishing for ideas, going to consider the RB with the MC-90, hadn't thought about that before. I see the v30/DV77 pairing gets some positive comments too.

i ordered 2 weber legacy speakers about 8 years ago to mix with 2 V30's i have in a 4x12. they really mix well together and sound good for just about any kind of music/gain levels - i'm totally happy with them and have not felt a need to even think about swapping speakers ever since i've had these speakers mixed together. i had a marshall jvm410 for several years and now i have a mesa roadster. and have 1 V30 with 1 of the webers in an avatar 2x12 instead of the 4x12 - one of the oversized ones similar to a marshall bluesbreaker cab. they're made with 3/4 inch birch instead of 5/8 like marshalls though.
anyway - webers legacy's are a greenback type speaker that you can pick and choose how they build them - so there will be alot of different opinions about them on the internet - hard telling if many people have even spec'd them like i did out there in the world either lol --- but so anyway when i ordered mine i got them rated at 65 watts, the V30 is 60, with a 50oz magnet - the V30's is also 50 oz or close to it i think? and i got a 55hz cone as opposed to the V30's 75hz, and a large dustcap - the V30 has a smaller dustcap.
so the 55hz cone is a bit lower in frequency,and the large duscap rolls off some of those ice pick highs like the V30 can have sometimes - also they said that the magnet weight and cone and everything should give them a very full low end. and they do seem to have it lol.... not like a bass speaker or anything just full lows in the guitar range of lows if that makes sense.
i've played some heavy stuff like amon amarth on ch4 modern just to see how much low end i can get out of this 2x12 and it never farts out lol....they take everything i throw at them and sound good
i need to make some more videos for my youtube of the roadster i havent really made a good one with the roadster yet.

I used a Marshall 1968A 4x12 and loaded one EVM 12L Classic 200W below and one Redback above in series, on the left and the right, with left and right sides in parallel. The hope was to lock the EVM and Redback somewhat in phase above and below and let the left and right move independently. I didn't experiment much with with different configurations but this one sounds so good with every amp I have.

The other thing I'd like is just four of the EVM 300W speakers in a cabinet. The one in my V90 sounds gigantic.
