Ive heard great things about the dc10 head and i feel im ready to make a purchase on one.Anyone out there with one wantin to sell???Anyone out there swear by them???Anyone swear AT them???Opinions?Definitely for heavy punk/metal chunky tones.

We play a lot of heavy stuff and a lot of mellow stuff. My DC-10 always delivers the freakin' goods!

PM paintballnsk he had one for sale a while ago.
I just saw one go for $600 on ebay, but it was a little beat up.

I think a minty one might run you a bit more.

GREAT amp!!! I miss mine. I sold it to a buddy and hope to own it again when he moves on (I know he will)

yeah.i need th 100 watts fer sure.
i mean i would like a mark III or IV.
ive heard the mark III's gain is a little aggressive on the ears.
I want a IV but the prices that im usually seein on the dc10's, it sounds a little more appetizin.
But am i gonna get that much different high gain tone outta a dc10 then my dually????
i kinda want the same thing, but different voicing ya know??
somethin new to play around with
PLUS.....reverb is always a plus...bein as ive tried a lot of reverb pedals through my dual and i just cant seem to like em'
i saw the 600 dollar one on ebay...that woulda been mine if i had my dough all together.

You do realize that the DC-5 is as "loud" as anything out there for all practical purposes right? Buy whatever you want but if a 50w boogie tube head isn't loud enough for you you're doing something wrong.

yeah.well i play a dual full stack and that is JUST loud enough. i mean it could always get louder but then the tone takes a sacrifice. im battling a very loud drummer as well as an 8x10 ampeg cabinet blasted with a 300 watt ampeg tube head.
so thats where the 100 watts is crucial. 50 would break up way to early. i dont know many things someone could do wrong with an amp and a guitar. not to say there isnt dildo heads out there.

It's your hearing dude.

I've gigged with pretty much everything Mesa has built over the last 15 or 20 years. If your stage volume is that high you need to address it with your band. I had a 2 channel Dual Rec and it was too loud once it was in the sweet spot. It'd overpower the stage. Same with my Marshall. My DC sits nicely in the mix. I just mic it up and use the monitors.

My Marshall is so loud that sitting next to my buddies Road King II with it dimed you can't even tell the RK is turned on. It totally drowns out the Road King. It sounds glorious tho.

Don't wreck your ears man. You'll need them later.

Clean headroom on the 5 is less than I liked. I came up with a nice mod to make it much better and put a Mercury Magnetics transformer set on it, which really helped.

For me, it's not about needing the 100 watts. My DC is only on 2 when we jam.
It's about the clean headroom. I want Alex Lifeson type huge chords, clean or not, with absolutely no mud. That's what I love about the 10, massive crunchy tones and cleans that won't break up unless you make them. But you could make them breakup if you wanted!

As for the Recto vs. DC-10.
The DC will cut through in a mix way better than a Recto for most people. There are some guys here who have their Recto's mastered and can get just about any tone they want. I prefer a much tighter tone, and that is why I have the DC. It is focused and precise. I always felt like my Recto could hide some of my sloppy playing. My DC has made me clean up my sloppy playing if that makes sense.

That was kind of where I was going. My DC can be relatively low and I can hear it fine in the full band din. I can't imagine a drummer loud enough to drown out that amp.

I'm going to be selling the DC-5 just because I've got a Mark V and a Titan modded Marshall JMP which cover all my bases. I don't need so many amps around the house. The DC's a hell of an amp tho...

I swear by my 10! I love buying and playing every old amp I can, it's a lot of fun...but at the end of the day when it's time to get too it I always go with the 10! My Gibsons, Rics everything just gets better through the 10. Ive had mine a year and am constantly amazed by the new tones I get with small tweaks here and there!

It also records so nicely...really brilliant cleans, power to spare when needed and no unwanted noise at all.
I have sold all my stomp boxes and now just play guitar to amp.
I highly recommend it if you can find one!

Cheers
