I picked up a Taylor acoustic-electric today with Piezos.

From a cursory search on Google, it seems that I won't fry anything if I play this guitar on my amp.

Is it a good idea? Should I just buck up and get an acoustic amp?

You will get feedback, not from the pickups, more so with the body of the guitar. I have run my Martin 12 string and a Takamine 6 with the California tweed. Sure, tried it with my other amps too. I mostly use an acoustic preamp with that though to keep the feedback at a minimum. (fishman Aura Spectrum). I believe most will use a sound hole cover that just pops into the round hole. If it is anything like the T5Z, that sound hole plug will not work. I found the piezo preamps in some guitars may be different (reason for the fishman Aura Spectrum preamp). Try it and see what happens. Worse case is you get lots of feedback and the guitar strings will be vibrating beyond control (due to acoustic body resonance and the sound produced by the amp's speaker.
