Why use a clean boost when you got one with your amp?

I have used many pedals for clean boosts but now if I want a clean boost I just use the solo switch that comes with my Mark V.

I do now use a Visual Sound Open Road for a soloing when I want a bit more overdrive and thickness but other than that I really see no need to waste money on an overdrive pedal using it for a clean boost.

I guess it all depends on how you are using that clean boost. If one is just trying to increase the output volume of the amp, say thru the FX Loop, then yes the Solo function is pretty much the same thing.

Now if you're trying to push the front end (preamp) "over the top" for added sustain and EQ filtering then the Solo is not going to accomplish that as it is after the preamp gain stages.

Two entirely different applications then.
