They're all close
The black dot / no stripe (and I think some early purple) have the 105 tranny.

The red stripe has the IIC+ preamp section

The blue stripe has the IIC+ power section

EVERYONE thinks THEIR III is the closest to the IIC+, hehe.

.

has this ever been examined more thuroughly?
i know that one guy posted those descriptions on his website so many years ago, and it is just wildly thrown around as a fact.
do we have any proof of all this?

oops it should read
which is closer in sound to an original c+ a red stripe mark III or a mark III with c+ mod

the last time i talked to mike b he said the red stripe mark III is the closest to the c+ out of all the III's in sound..

how much difference is their between the III red strip and the legendary 105 tranny in the early no dot/black II's?

If you are talking about the lead channel, I would agree. Sound includes tone and response. The 105 C+ gives a dynamic response that is only rivaled by the Coliseum Mark III. I have owned a red and blue stripe, FWIW.

Joey if the 105 C+ gives a dynamic response that is only rivaled by the Coliseum Mark III, what is the dynamic response like on Mike's IIC+ Coliseum?!

The Coliseum amps can be brutal in the clean channel, wheather it is a MkII or III. With EV speakers, the word "painful" comes to mind, if the room is small.

I'll take it one step further-wife and kids were gone...too many beers.--a few of the neighborhood players dropped in,and I felt it was my duty to do a little Hendrix on the Strat-complete with feedback, down on my knees, shakin' the fool out of the Strat a la Jimi...couldnt hear anything but SWOOOOOOOOOOOOSHHHHH the next morn..and morn after that....the master was on (gulp) 5..Coli plus EV's equals tinnitus(sp??)...its ok now,but the next day I was playing my old Martin, and I heard the upper octave harmonic on every note!Thought my **** guitar was messed up, then realized it was my **** ears..!dumbass me..but it was a good night :)

How does one identify a "105" transformer? i want to check out my MIII when it gets back from the shop. (it's getting a cap job/checkup by "Mike" the tech!) i can't wait to hear it. I thought it sounded pretty good before i took it in...

It will be the the first part of the part number stamped on the transformer cover. Just lay it down on its side (or top), shine a flashlight in there and read the numbers stamped in to the transformer.

Mike Bendinelli told me that the red stripe (in first place) and the green stripe (in second place) are the most similar to the IIC+. He also said that the blue stripe is the most different one.
