Hey, all. I decided to swap out one of my LSS preamp tubes and am having some trouble figuring out how to reinstalling the tube shield/cover. Is there a cutout in the chassis to match the two dimples in the shield? Or is it just a press fit with no key? Thanks for any help. Don't want to damage or force anything.

:( When I tried to replace the cover in my Heartbreaker, it broke a NOS mullard! Dammit. I then removed the shield and haven't looked back in the last 6-7 years.

Be careful...I broke a vintage Telefuken that way...and other tubes, too.
There are cutouts in the chassis....line them up carefully....but the main cause of damage (for me anyway) is the spring inside....it must be centerd over the tube before you turn it to lock it in. If the spring is off to one side it will cut into the glass and then, ...no more tube!

You may get slightly more noise leaving them off (though you may not even notice), but many people do just that to avoid damage. It's not too likely the tubes will fall out if you do this.

Good luck :)

they can be a pain, but just take your time and line up the two notches so they are running front to back with the amp. That's how the cutout on the chassis is oriented. Then, just line up the spring, push in, and turn 90 degrees. Done.
