We all know the Mark IIc+ wins on leads :D but what do you think wins for rhythm? The Mark iii section? I'm talking about in the Quad pre. I've been able to get some nice metal rhythm tones out of the iic+ section though... What do you think?

First off, if you have a chance at a Mark II C+, you buy it. They're extremely rare. Mark IIIs pop up all the time.

Having said that, I've always loved the raw sounds on the Mark III and since it's a little heavier sounding amp, that would be my tonal choice for heavier rhythm playing.

I'd buy one if I had extra cash, definitely. I really meant which section on a Quad since we can choose between the iic+ and the iii section. I agree though, so far it's the iic+ section for leads and the iii section for rhythm. Though, like I said I've been able to get good rhythm tones out of both. The iic+ just smokes it for leads though :D

That is how I use it... having said that, running a parametric EQ can help make either channel deliver the heaviest of riffing tones...

I have my Quad setup so taht R1 is Clean, R2 is a dirty brown sound, L1 is a searing classic rock type lead (very mid heavy smooth santana-ish), and L2 is straight up metal with the scooped EQ and all. The

The GEQ makes the difference really. If i turn it off on L2 it sounds way different. The settings on your power amp are pretty crucial as well. I just prefer to have a wide variety of sounds rather than thinking of it as a good lead and a good rhythm sound.

So I'd say the MK III section (L2) is bes for metal rhythm work. At least thats how I have it setup...

I think the both, Lead 1 and 2, work for a metal sound. Just depends on what you want. At the moment I have L1 set up for a more scooped metal sound and the L2 for more middle and less bass, maybe a little more "traditional" metaltone, and the L1 is more modern. I also have a Maxon OD808 boosting the metalsounds.

I think the L2 is a little tighter than L1, maybe more bottom end too. Test both channels and you'll find your favorite.

Well if your talking like old school metal, the c+ is the way to go. That amp prettymuch defined some of the best metal sounds ever.
