I need your help in making a decision about the Mark V.
Seeing as i'm only 14, i obviously dont have a good source of income to buy this amp so my parents have to help me out a little with the money,
so my parents said, i can look for a used Mark IV head, or wait til christmas for the Mark V.
Now, I emailed Long and mcquade to track my Mark V, and it wont be coming until late august.
Soooo, what should I do !? :shock:

Wait for the V. Do this. If you're not playing in a band grab an acoustic with thick strings and high action and force yourself to play it. Practice your balls off on that for a few months and when you get the Mark V in Christmas you'll be melting faces off.

Looks like i'll be waiting for the V then, i'll be using my teachers Dual Rec for the gigs in between now and christmas, and for home practice i'll use guitar rig 3 with my computer, no need for an acoustic with high action Dan :lol:

Wrong generation. The concept of learning to play your axe before you get decent equipment died a long time ago. The Ibanez the kid was playing was WAY better than my first electric (Silvertone, as I recall). And, adjusted for inflation, I doubt that my folks would have ever "helped me out" on a Mark V (or the early '70's equivalent thereof).

That's VERY VERY true for alot of kids now, but there's still some kids that learn before they get decent equipment, myself being one of them. When i first picked up a guitar i instantly fell in love with it, just trying to learn bar chords was an awesome experience because you have to work , and practice and dedicate yourself to the instrument to ultimately get really good at it, which is basically what you have to do with anything if you want to get good at it. But my point being, that you're right, this is the wrong Generation, my generation are bunch of lazy mofo's lol.Most of my friends, and even my guitar teacher has said to me, that they are stuck and their not getting any better and that they dont want to practice the shitty stuff. My teacher asks me how i play the way i do after only a year, and i said that you have to work hard, and the things that you have to work on are not always that fun. How painful was it to learn sweep picking :shock: i couldnt move my hand after

Wait for the V and don't listen to the acoustic that's hard to play ****. My friend is a pro player and a teacher and only plays with 9 gauge strings. Why? Because it's easier and faster to play. Yes, you may need 10 or 11 gauge for dropped tunings, etc. but.........practice with electric and acoustic if you have it but just practicing is the most important thing. Wait for the Mark V. Myself , I use 9 gauge for standard tuning and 10 for 1/2 or whole step down tunings. A hard to play guitar will just make you want to quit and keep you from realizing that it's not impossible.

People are losing their jobs and the economy is in the shitter and you can't decide on a great amp that costs $1500 or a great amp that is new and costs 2K that daddy should buy you. I suggest you live at home for as long as you can because your parents will buy you whatever you want. Suck the tit till you are at least 30 kid.

id say you should make sure the mark is what you want. As in after owning the mark V, i realize that it works for me because i play a variety of things but if i was more focused on one, there would be better sounds.

If you play all metal, id say get a mark 4 or rivera k-tre. You wouldnt really need the extra stuff on the mark V. There is a used but full warranty k-tre on musicians friend for 1500.

If you play all sorts of things, then the mark v is a good idea, or the VHT sig:x which has slightly better switching.

If you like lots of low end, id say get the mark 4 as the mark V simply doesnt have as much bottom end. i think there is a thread where others noticed the same thing. My old VHT through the same cab im using now, blows my mark V away for low end.

Honestly tho you are crazy lucky at 14 to even have guitar rig. i beleive i had a 10 watt static box and warped neck kramer focus at 14... be jive thankfull.

Hey...my first electric was a Silvertone too....
I was 12 and it was impossible to lean anything on it!!!!!

Even if you want to play just metal, get the V. Why? As good as or close enough to the Mark IV plus Mark IIC+ mode plus extreme and Mark I, etc., etc. plus 10 watt mode. Mark V to me is the no brainer-better variety of clean tones, right? And "bottle rocket" was just giving you a hard time................but get a Mark IV if you feel like you want. The Mark IV may be 10 to 15 years older too even if it looks in really good shape. Look at the contemporary style-put in 2 V30's and 2 GHT75's or 4 V30's, whatever. I have two of these bought a year apart and for the rest of you, these cabs are as good as a Marshall or Mesa cab IMO.
If you ever see a Schecter C-8 Hellreaiser 8 string, try one out. More low end and tight tone than Ibanez Prestige or ESP 8 strings.........kinda a joke for you guys.........not too many 8 string players out there.

ouch, tough call with lots of pain involved "knowing" what you know! If they would have just bought it for you at Christmas and never told you it would have been easier in some way!

I say wait and receive the Mark V for Christmas. I also suggest you never ever sell it no matter what as you go through life. Take very good care of it and let it always be that special Christmas present your folks got you long ago etc.

It's just my opinion but a good one. I'm a little over 50 and have played guitar since I was 6 years old. I've been in a lot of shoes over the years. You are a lucky fella and it's good to see you have found a great internet forum to be a part of as well.

Both amps will be awesome, you'd have something great either way. But, I have found it is easier to be patient and get what you really want. If not, you settle for something you don't like as much, sell it, and lose money to finally get the other. This is a different situation since the Mark IV probably will not depreciate anytime soon.

I put two of their "Hellatone" V30's in my 2x12 Recto vert cab and it sounds thunderous. I was worried about the hype of them being broken in from the factory, but low and behold the harshness and fizz that new V30's have was gone!! And I peeled their sticker off and sure enough the original Celestion V30 sticker was still on there. AND you pay 99 bucks instead of 150. It's a no brain to go with avatar if you plan on getting V30's or G12H's.
