I ordered my Mesa Mark V a little over a month ago and I was wondering what type of power and preamp tubes Mesa is using in their amps now. Are the pre amp tubes JJ's? Are the power amp tubes Chinese or Russian?

What is everyone's overall opinion of the stock compliment of tubes? I've had good luck with the winged C's but if the stock tubes are decent when I get my Mark V, I will probably keep the stock tubes in there until they need replacing.

Thanks.

I think they are JJs . Ive had no problem with the stock tubes in my Mark V . you will get all sorts of responses here though . Trust your own ears .

The preamp tubes, power amp tubes, or both? If I recall correctly, Mesa started using JJ's for the preamp tubes a couple of years ago, but they were still using Chinese tubes for their power tubes.

The SPAX7 in the V1 is a Chinese tube.
The remainder of the preamp is JJ ECC83s.
The 6L6s are Chinese.
The EL34s (if you're looking at going that route) are EHX.

Really? Last I heard, the preamp tubes were Sovteks. I know the SPAX7 is Chinese, and the 6L6s alternate between Chinese and Rubys. The 5U4 is also Chinese.

If the tube says "Russian 2" on it it's an EHX.

If it doesn't, it's a JJ.

Aren't Ruby Tubes from different sources like Groove Tubes? Those companies test and grade them? I mean as opposed to Tung Sol which is a brand?

Yes Ruby is a distributor, not a manufacturer. I believe all current Chinese tubes are made by Shuguang.

BTW, new production Tung-Sol tubes, as well as the Mullard re-issue, Sovtek, and EH, are manufactured for New Sensor Corp. by the same Russian factory.
