I just got a Mesa Mark V for xmas. (I am lucky to have best wife ever IMHO. She hooked me up big time) I have been playing it through a Mesa 2x12 3/4 open back cab with C90's. I normally play through Fender and music man tube combos.. I play in a mainly classic rock band that is Grateful Dead, Allmans, who, zeppelin, ect.. I have been looking at so many cabinet makers and style with all kind of speaker options. I was originally thinking a 2x12 but then I am looking at 2 1x12. Not sure what I should do. I am looking for any opinions from folks who play in similar style and see what you are playing through.

OK how about anyone use tonetubby or creambacks in a 2x12 with a Mesa V and like it?

I use Scumback M75s. Essentially Greenbacks. THE classic rock sound. AC/DC, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy; etc. I also use EL-34 type tubes.

I'd go with a 2x12 over a pair of 1x12s. Bigger box, bigger boom.

Speaker comparisons are tough. Good luck!

I like WGS speakers with my MkIII to cut the high frequencies that the C90s let thru. Specifically the ET65+Vet30 combination. Very classic but will still crunch out when you want to.

Do you gig this rig? If so, having 2 1x12 cabs can be nice to vary your venue volume. If not, then just get the 2x12 (or keep what you have) and change the speakers. If you don't like them you can always sell them.

I've got the 3/4 back 2x12 C90 cab, and a Recto 2x12 with V30s. For rock type stuff, the Recto is a night and day difference from the 3/4 back.

For classic rock/blues.....the Mark IIC+ selection is my personal favorite.

The speaker/cab question is tougher.

I started with a Dr. Z (Z-Best) 2x 12. It was good but somehow not quite right. That is when I started my relationship with Warehouse Guitar Speakers (WGS).....lol.

I ended up having TRM custom build an all pine cab to Super Reverb size (25"x 25") and I installed one twelve (G12 C/S) and two tens (one G10A and one G10C) Wired in series/parallel for an 8 ohm cab. This is a very cool combination.

Good luck in your search!

Thanks for all the info all. Looks like I am going to add a Tone Tubby 2x12 h bomb cab and see how that sounds after 100 hours or so.
