My dad has basically a full stack SVT Classic Ampeg rig, the head, the 4x10 with the horn, and a 15 cab too... its unreal!
But, he doesnt want to deal with the weight anymore but he still wants the tone. We have had a real awesome time with the Mesa Boogie Express amps for our guitars so he was thinking he might try out the Walkabout Scout.
Do any of you who have one feel the the Walkabout would sort of be in the same ball park and sort of be the bass amp equivalent for the express stuff? Is the sound good and enjoyable to play in a small room yet still quality enough to crank at a show?
Any help and opinions would be awesome.
Thanks
Patrick

I've got a Walkabout with the 12 inch speaker.
I bought it for small gigs to replace a Fender Bassman.
I have gigged with it almost a year now, and can give you a couple of opinions I've formed .
1. It is LOUD. For a small amp, it puts out a big sound.
2. The EQ gives off a wide variety of tones and is very sensitive.
I get a very different tone when I switch from one bass to another.
Because of this, and probably the fact that I'm a dummy, it took me a while to get my tone out of it.
3. I have a Mesa 400+ and I prefer that to the Walkabout, but that may be because of #2.
4. It is really nice to be able to go into a gig with bass in one hand, and amp in the other.
5. The guys in my band like it.
6. Did I mention it was loud?

+1 on the LOUD aspect of the Walkabout... especially with the Radiator extension cab hooked up!

The punchiness of the 400+ isn't automatically there, but the LOW END that this little rig puts out is just INSANE!!!

The Walkabout should be able to drive the cabs your dad has.
I use a Walkabout with 2 Epifani 112s. They fit in a normal 4 door sedan.
The Direct out of the Walkabout works great to feed the PA in a larger venue. As with all parametric EQ, learning how to work the controls is the key.
I have no single bag or cab more than 35 lbs.
